I’ve heard of it being done in cases of severe or repeated prolapse. But I’m not quite sure why you would. Is it a pet cow or something along those lines?

I have a heifer. On three sides of me are bulls. Big ones. My concern is that she will come into heat and the bulls will go through my fence like tissue paper which has already happened at the four corners on my property when diagonal in heat cattle were involved. I don’t want my sheep and dogs stomped, I don’t want my animals out. I didn’t want a bottle heifer but that’s what was brought home. I’m a big believer in Murphy’s law and want to fix a problem before it starts.

One recourse is to breed her when she's old enough to be bred so you won't have to deal with it over and over, though you'd have to wait until she was mature enough to do so. Never really heard of a cow being spayed~but have read that it can be done~ but I'm betting there's an IUD for cows or a CIDR.

They mostly spay heifers that go on feed lots so they don't come in heat and then they can concentrate on eating and gaining. Don't know what it would cost. Is this a pet animal? Unless it is a pet, and you are going to keep her for ever and ever...pen her in the barn when she comes in heat.... she will only be in heat for about 24-36 hours at most....
You said you didn't want a heifer but that was what was brought home.... is she to eat? Otherwise, sell her and get a steer..... Cattle prices are very very good right now.... 300 lb steer calves over 2.00 lb.... small heifers like that over 1.50 and up.... don't know how big it is and what the purpose is.
