Hi there, first time goat mom here. My 6 month old goat managed to sneak into the chicken coop and got into the bin with corn for my chickens. This was yesterday afternoon. From what I could see, my three goats ate a small bucket-full.

The other two seem fine but the buck has diarrhea, is lethargic and doesn't want to eat.

I tried massaging his side and managed to get him to burp and release some backdoor gas. I also gave him a syringe with sunflower oil.

I'm not sure what more I should do. How can I help him. I'm worried.

Has he improved at all?

Can you get him to walk and release any more gass?

If he is still lethargic i would call the vet.

Has your got been vaccinated for enterotoxemia? That would be a vaccine called CD and T? If not you might try to find some CD antitoxin. The overload of feed can cause those toxins to proliferate in the gut and can kill your goat. I'd give the goat some penicillin. I wouldn't try to stop the diarrhea - the nasties need to come out. Probiotics and electrolytes should also be administered.

You can do a search for treating enterotoxemia in goats to get more information - but I believe your best bet would be to contact your veterinarian.

He's eating hay and drinking. I gave him some bicarbonate and oil. He's still slow and tired but moving around more than yesterday

He hasn't been vaccinated at all. In fact, none of my 3 goats are. It's not common practice here in Sweden to vaccinate hobby goats - only those intended for milk production and after castrations.

I've called the local vet (though local is not very near in my region) so I'm hoping to hear back soon.
Gonna read a bit about what you mentioned now!

Sorry, didn't realize where you were located. In the US the vaccines are very reasonably priced with easy access. Hope your goat does well!
