We have a Nigerian dwarf doe who is in labor. She has been trying to prolapse for the last few weeks it's been a huge battle, but she is in labor now. Or at least we thought. (we do not intend to breed her again after this for her health and our sanity) she popped a bag this morning around 7am, and she has another fluid bag sticking out partially, as well as what's left of the first sack. We have checked and check and it has not progressed at ALL. we have wanted to step in but are not quite sure if its safe to yet, as we have never had a goat have this long of a pause in the birth. Should we step in? It has snowed/iced very heavily and driving to the vet/calling them in isnt really an option right now. She is about 4-5 years old.

I would definitely try to at least do a quick, gentle internal exam. Is she actively pushing? Try to see how dilated she is and if you can feel some baby body parts. It's possible she's got a malpresentation.

We haven't seen any real pushing. Occasionally when she calls out to her buddies, she will put that tail up and will be a small push but no real pushing at all. Did the internal exam and couldn't feel baby, but possibly that they're too far back yet? Have been keeping an eye on her all morning and have had literally no chances since 7am. Will be checking again here shortly had to warm up! Already lost triplets to the cold last night when a doe pulled a surprise birth in us in the middle of a snow storm.

This is what we have been looking at all day it was clean when I was out a little bit ago, but she has the runs now, which coukd maybe be from the molasses drench that she was given for the consistent Vaginal prolapse up to this point.

Does the doe have a normal temp? When you went in for the exam was the cervix open enough to get through? Sometimes an older experienced doe knows when something's not right and they just won't push through a bad malpresentation. If you can get some pressure against the cervix it should stimulate a contraction. If there's any way you can get a vet involved it might be time. If not - you're going to have to get more involved in the delivery.

If you go back in (and you probably know this already) clean her up before. You don't want to introduce bacteria into the uterus.

We cleaned it off first for sure but went back in and there is soemthing blocking entry, so can't even get to the cervix. Doesn't feel like baby, not really sure what it is, but it's fleshy.. We are looking at possibly seeing if a vet can try and make it out or at least walk us through it.. Still no change, other than what looks like pus coming out around the bag 🙁

I think that's your best bet right now. So sorry you're having to deal with this. :hugs Sure hope you get a good outcome. Please come back and let us know how it goes - maybe we can all learn something.
