Morning... can't say good because I TOTALLY DESPISE DST..... I spend weeks and months ALWAYS feeling like I am running behind...
Besides, it is March 12 th and it is SNOWING..... Yep... they have been calling for it... cars, deck, and most of the ground is white but it looks to be letting up a little and it is right at 32....
We won't get a huge accumulation... maybe up to 1- 2 inches total... but it was a cold day yesterday, with the temps all week down in the upper 20's/low 30's at night, days were in the upper 40's but the wind kept it very chilly feeling out there. Cooling off the ground temps even though they were/are above freezing.
Supposed to be back in the low 60's by the end of the week.
Going in to do dishes and figure out some stuff to put in oven and maybe bake something to warm up the house... clothes to fold from bringing in the other day and paperwork to catch up on the cows/calves, who is where.
Went with DS late yesterday aft to do some feeding and he wanted to get a few things into the arena at deb's under roof before this weather... also took one baler to the aug co. farm and put it in the shed and got the last 3 bales of hay to bring back and feed from there.
Went up on the hill at doug's farm in the back and there were at least 6-8 new calves... DS said that he hadn't had time to get them moved out front to the "calving pasture"... and that the gate between them and the other group with fall calves was open and some got mixed in together.. so they will have to be sorted out.... I am just at the I don't care anymore because he cannot get things done and moved and when I offer to help or do something it falls on deaf ears. Not losing anymore sleep over it. I will be glad when the bulk of the heifers are sold and then maybe can get my cattle moved to one place together...
Talked to the guy about the fence here at the house and he said he would call and come by and go over what I am thinking then get back to me with a price...
Also talked to the young guy that used to work for DS that I called my "adopted grandson".... he works for the state now and still runs cattle on the side... he bought one of the 2 Gelbvieh bulls we just got.... and his uncle does remodeling... told him to ask if he would be interested in coming to look at the upstairs ceilings and getting some other work done around here... Like I told him, and he knows DS well... and that just because he is my son, doesn't mean I am blind to his good intentions that never get done... and that I really want this house to get done this year... DS is never going to get anything done he has promised... and I am really really tired of waiting... Just like the fruit trees that didn't get moved again this winter... he can't see further than the end of his nose with catering to her, and now the extra effort to make time for her daughter and the sister's 2 kids... they are his "family" and he is going to put his effort into them and my things will never get done. I know that and have finally accepted it. Time to go forward from here.
We will still continue to do cattle things together because it is advantageous to me... but I am looking out for , myself, first, now. Fact of life... it will not change.
The greenhouse/shelter that I got several years ago at TSC has started to come apart... the "plastic" cover is fraying and splitting... sun and wind damage... and is splitting down the ridgeline.... so am looking for something more "solid" and hard paned "glass/hard plastic" type.... I will probably try to get a replacement cover for this, or get some just "greenhouse" type plastic for it since the frame is still good... but want something more sturdy and solid for long term. You know how the sun just degrades the woven plastic stuff... like the cheaper tarps that degrade... this has been good for 2 years but it is just not holding up. Can't complain too much as it was originally under $300 new... But with the wind here, a more rigid type would be better... This one took a beating this past year with the wind....
Since it is "noontime" I need to get something done...
