it’s a cautionary tale about phone security which I believe is non existent. I firmly believe our devices can listen and record clandestinely. To what end who knows?
You're not alone in that listening belief. In talking to one of my dogs who had really goofed up one day - I said "If you do that one more time I'm going to kill myself" --- my phone immediately buzzed me and asked if I wanted a suicide prevention line. Yeah. That.

A good idea. Vladinia gets a lot less mileage these days. I generally answer unknowns and say nothing till the call terminates. This can convince some robo dialers that the number is void. Occasionally I feel ornery and Vladinia answers. I’m on the do not call list (a joke) but I still average about a dozen calls a day with local numbers as id. I’ve had as many as 80 in a six hour period.

By not answering, I gradually got less and less calls. Now I may get one or two.

Had about 16 calls today. I expect my sass brought this on. But- there were further attempts to activate FaceTime. It didn’t work because I deleted the app but I got notification that someone was trying. Be careful with your phones. They are not nearly as secure as phone sellers want you to believe. Do as much as you can ā€œold schoolā€. Be stubborn. And Vladinia scolded ā€œJohn Smithā€ - ā€œ Didn’t vvwork deed eet? Teesk teesk geeve us a keessā€. There are rotten people in the world who lie to defraud older or unwary folks especially in the U S. They deserve far more than they get in our present justice system. If I can delay, distract or deter these people from abusing people, I will.

A scammer actually called the sheriff of the county one time. He videoed it and posted their conversation on FB. He told the scammer who he was and they had a conversation. He asked the guy if he felt bad about taking money from old people and he said no.

I've been lucky lately. Most of the calls I've gotten recently are realtors looking to get our place listed (we have no intention of selling and have done nothing to bring this latest onslaught on) -- our automatic reply is If you have an offer of 6 mill we will consider it and hang up.
Years ago I'd answer numbers I didn't know or unknowns with
FBI field office, how may I direct your call? that always got a fast disconnect.

I watched a Reel on FB, the guy answered the call, then started in on him, telling him that Mr Blank was no longer with us, it was a murder scene, he was detective so and so, then started pelting the caller with questions, like he was a suspect in the murder. The caller was freaking out. Hilarious!

Moses on walkabout again. We can’t figure out how he’s doing it. Gone about 2 hours. He should be getting hot and tired and ready to be at the house. Thought Sophie was out but she was in Vala’s pen. I left her hoping she’d enlarge the burrow under the doghouse and teach Vala how. Lgds:he

Moses is back. Maybe his phone pinged him about the heat advisory. Dozing under the dining room table, having deposited about a pound of sand. Dog shaped. Sophie did some excavation in the pen then also leaving a sand silhouette next to Moses. Vala and Leo just finished a round of nose boxing. Hubbs is on the front porch talking to a client, avoiding a chorus of panting and move-over grumbling. Should have named this thread Gone to the Dogs.
