I went out to feed and water my flocks after church. While I was checking the second coop the skies opened.

So I sat on the coop chair for about 15 minutes of downpour, all while being observed...

:gig

Then as the rain slowed the hens went back into the main area to eat, discovering the feed had gotten wet, ooh! It's mash!

I rushed out one evening to lock up the chickens before a storm hit, miscalculated and ended up getting drenched by the time I got out there.
I took cover in the coop with the chickens.
The lightening & crashing thunder were much worse than usual & I stood there - under that metal roof - thinking 'This is it.... I really am going to die in the chicken coop. We're all going to get Bar-B-Qed by lightening!'

Did your flock stare at you for the duration?

Sitting in a waiting room, as I'm the ride for a friend getting cataract surgery. I decided to edit or delete some of my photos on my phone while I'm here. This one caught my eye, look to the far left, behind the last hen's tail:

No chicken photos, I have been busy with work and family this week. They're growing, trust me.
:D =D

At work I've been scheduling candidate interviews for September. We had well over 400 applicants for 4 slots, glad I wasn't one of the faculty narrowing it down to less than 50 interviews. We're at 46 scheduled right now.

Wednesday afternoon DS had his orientation for Construction courses at the community college. I was invited, and went along, and was impressed with the instructors and the curriculum. I'm hoping this works out. DS is 42, has a BA in English. After caring for his father for over 3 years he said he realized he wants a different path. He will be learning all aspects of house construction from the foundation to the roof, even making kitchen cabinets! He understands that he will be applying his new skills to our home ;)

Yesterday I was going to sit down with my non-clinical boss/manager and let her know of my retirement plans, but got a call from DS, who was coming to pick me up...his usual ride (Camry) was acting up. I cancelled my meeting and drove the car over to my mechanic, without issues . I suspect transaxle or transmission problems, but hoping it's something much more simple. He'll be using my Accord (336k) for transportation. I have my Highlander (250k) :love

As soon as it's light enough I plan on doing some trimming, maybe some mowing later. Things need to dry out, the "grass" is too wet from over 3" of rain since Monday.

Looks like I won't need to buy a Beautyberry!

It's growing under a huge old oak in the front yard, will research the best way to get some of the bush over where I want it.

I've been weeding every evening since I can't mow.

That's mostly sweet potato vines cascading from the right. Before I started weeding the bare earth in this picture was full of trumpet vine :rant and partridge pea, and some poison ivy :ep.

Don't ask me how I know about the PI...
:barnie

One of my weed piles is on the left, will use my gloves when I move it.

The watermelon vines in the middle are trying to produce, I saw at least 3 baseball-sized fruits, good! The shorter (surrounded with black fencing) and TALL (to the right of the rain barrels) elderberry bushes look healthy. Yarrow in the foreground is filling out, getting bushy.

And the iris are sending up new shoots!

I'm reading that you have 2 cars with high milage? A word of advice, you might want to buy a new car and get it paid for before you retire. I'm making payments on my roller skate that gets good milage and am looking forward to the day it is paid off. It will feel like getting a raise. If you decide to get a new car, you can double or triple up on the payments. Just throwing that out there.

Thanks. The Highlander belonged to my mechanic's MIL, sold it to me when she passed away last year. It should have another 10 years to it, even with that mileage. He's working on getting a 2008 Corolla, 80k on it. If he does he knows I will buy it. The only reason the Camry is not doing well is DS knew it had a slow oil leak, but drove it frequently at 3 quarts or less. He's learned.

ETA: the 2006 Honda Accord just got its annual inspection, and my mechanic said it's in good shape. He has been its mechanic since 2009, bought it from his client and sold it to me about 5 years ago.
