Oh, and on this morning's street walk Caleb saw a squirrel...acted as if he'd never before seen one? Attentive, but he's learning not to jerk the leash.

The shed handle didn't work too well as a leash anchor, so I now have a cinder block that I use to anchor Caleb when I want to check my flocks.

I thought she was in the bedroom, but apparently not.

A few minutes ago Debbie must have snuck from the living room and past a sleeping Caleb, but didn't count on him getting up, following me to the dryer...he saw her, bounded down the hall. Only door open was the bathroom. I followed him quickly. No sounds of battle, good. I turned on the light and Debbie was half behind the toilet, front half, paws on top of the seat, glaring at Caleb. No hiss. Caleb acted friendly, "Let's play!"

I removed Caleb, put him behind the gate, then opened up the bedroom door, and she scuttled in, not amused, but not freaked out as far as I could tell.

Last night she kept coming in the bedroom, checking out Caleb in the crate. I have confidence that it will work out.

Mexican Standoff

Caleb was being mouthy again, so he went into Time Out, day crate. A few minutes later Debbie slowly stalked into the kitchen, and looked over at Caleb's crate. He was lying down, but his head up, watching her. They just stared at each other for about 15, 20 seconds, then Debbie withdrew back into the hall. No noise, no excitement. A minute or so later Debbie came out in the kitchen, full view of Caleb, looked at him, went to the communal water dish, and got a drink. Caleb was still lying quietly, watching. Debbie withdrew down the hallway again. A minute or two later Debbie came back in the kitchen, looked at Caleb watching her, went over to the window, jumped up on the table where her food dish resides. She ate a little kibble, got down, looked at Caleb, then headed down the hall towards my bedroom.

No noise, no fuss, no bristled fur. Just watchful. I was very pleased, but especially with Caleb.

Dogs and cats can be friends. It may take some training on Caleb’s part, but he doesn’t seem to be malicious towards Debbie.
Debbie was raised by Cleo, 60+ pound dog. It certainly can work, but Caleb has to show restraint as he just did, see post above.
