Maximus

I went outside early yesterday morning. I was leaving early and in the semi darkness, I discovered that Max was not in his pen. The wire on the other side of his pen was down. I went to the gate to the back field, he came to me and I put the halter on him. Amazingly, he was just waiting on me to come feed him. The back field has little fencing, wide open to several thousand acres. I've had hoses that, if they got out, their tail went up and they ran like demons were after them. WHEEEEE!!!!!!! RUN!!!!!! Max was just hanging out waiting on me to show up. I don't know how Max pushed the wire down, but it was trampled. He had no cuts or marks on him, but the wire is a mess. I put him in the middle field and didn't turn the sheep out. I was gone all day. I intended to fix his pen today, but had to go run errands for my sister in law and myself. There's always tomorrow!

Max has taken up with cooper the ram. He hangs out at Coopers pen. Today i saw Max with his head hanging over the fence and Cooper tried to sniff noses with him. Max laid his ears back and nipped at Cooper. Sorry Cooper, Max doesn't want to be your BFF!
What a good boy.🥰 It sounds like he's happy and content where he is. Except for the fence issue. I wonder what that was about too.

The wire is old, was there when I bought the place, rusty concrete wire and just old. A possum probably could have torn it down, much less a horse. I did Tatli sheep lessons first, then started on taking down the wire. I had to cut vines loose, pull T-posts and cut wire.

I did a little in this corner, got more to do. Trumpet flower Vines are wrapped around the T-post and wire, it will take chains and son’s big tractor to pull it up.

I cut the wire in 3 sections, folded and stomped it flat.

I got into poison ivy and I’m allergic to that stuff. I put up tools and headed for a shower.

I hope you got it off and don't have a bad reaction.

Man, I have the same problem with poison ivy! I can just look at the stuff and get a rash! 😳

Back to work on Max’s pen this morning. I got Laynes big tractor and pulled up the T-post that is wrapped in trumpet flower vines, plus the piece of concrete wire. I chained around it, then wrapped chain around the front end loader and pulled it out.

I laid it down and went and stabbed a round bale. I’ll set it this evening, I’m tired now.

I mowed a trail to the panels I wanted from what was my first effort at building a pen for Max. When Layne pulled up those sections of wire, from the old roping chute, the posts and railroad crossties, the crossties left holes. My little tractor found them. I had a front wheel in a hole and a back wheel, cattywhompus, wheels spinning. I rocked it forward and backwards and climbed out of the holes. I got a FEL bucket of dirt and filled the holes.

I backed the truck up in Max’s pen. I had to move a wheel with a heavy iron attachment off the panel I needed, got it in the bucket and took it to the container. When Charles and the boys got here, he helped unload it.

I dragged the panels up to the pen. I mowed some more with my tractor. Charles and the boys loaded old hay and horse manure in my truck. There’s another load for tomorrow. I drove to their house and they unloaded it.

Back at it tomorrow.
