Thanks for your replies
I'm feeding grass hay, alfalfa pellets and sweet feed. Floods this past fall and winter killed off most of the grass, so they're in a dry lot. So high rainfall and dry feed.
I'm haven't been able to find sheep minerals in my area, but one of the tractor supplies a few...
I have a seven week old ram lamb (twin) that seemed like he was going downhill pretty fast. He kept laying down, and then someone would bother him( or step on him because he laid down right in front of them, and he'd move again somewhere else. I figured he was just tired since midday is naptime...
Thanks.
Fecal came back with a good bit of worms, so the vet has her on a three day round of dewormer, along with my other goats (its been a very wet summer).
I've been slowly introducing alfalfa pellets. She just started coming up to eat pellets with everybody else yesterday. She's always at...
So, yesterday my boss let me off work early and I came home to a goat with her head stuck in the fence of my sheep paddock. Small, grey, and definitely not one of mine.
So I got her unstuck. It was a pain because of her horns. I have a pretty nice bruise on the inside of my wrist. I ended up...
Three of the four walls are uncovered. I could cover two more sides, but I'll have to wait until stores open to get more tarps. She's pretty used to the pen. I started feeding her on the stand in there twice a day a few weeks ago and gradually moved to keeping her there all night.
She's had a...
I have a nubian/oberhasli doe who was in prelabor (no ligaments, tight hot udder, occasional contractions), get startled by a predator stealing one of my escaped ducks at 1:09am CST (I was watching on the camera when it happened). She's in a 10x10 covered dog run, and she ran straight into the...
Thank you guys. I ended up contacting another local breeder, and she lent me a tube feeding kit and a different type of nipple (big gray kind). She told me to try the nipple first, because she's never had to tube feed while using those. The buckling ended up taking the nipple really well and I...
Does anyone know anything about what to do when you don't have a lamb/goat feeding tube on hand? If you're reading this and don't know, can you link someone else who may know?
So, my first time doe kidded unexpectedly this morning to two bucklings, one dead and one alive. They seem premature, but I'm not exactly sure how much. I ran the buck with my does (all Nubian mixes) starting December 5th, so the earliest due date would be around May 4th. I didn't see any action...
Thank you very much! I know its not the most important thing for registration, but I also wanted to know the specifics of what to call his coat pattern, since just "tan" didn't do him justice.
I need help with the color and markings section on the ADGA registration form for this handsome little guy.
Tan, white poll, but I don't know what to say about his face and leg markings. He also has a white stomach, but I don't know if/how to include that.
Sorry the pictures are blurry, he...
It could be that she was just trying to jump and run away and pee at the same time and it splashed up.
I would put a nest box in her cage 26-28 days after that first date just to be sure.
You could breed her again just in case, but she may just run around again. It doesn't 100% guarantee...
How's her body condition? Some goats can almost completely hide their pregnancies, sometimes until birth, so I wouldn't so much about width as condition.
All goats bag up differently. Does she have any mammary tissue at all? It will feel softer and squishier between and around her teats, but...
Thought I'd post an update. He's looking better now. I didn't really do anything to him and it seems to be going away on its own. It had no affect on his fertility. All three of my does are pregnant and due late May to early June.
His "boys" also seems to be looking a little bigger and fuller.
It really depends on personal preference and your doe. Pay attention to her condition. If she looks good, you can go ahead and rebreed her. If she starts to look too thin with her next litter, give her a little more time between litters, or change her diet, so that she can produce to your...
