Right now our pasture is still pretty full of green grass but its October here in Northern WI and I can see it slowly browning day by day as the weather is getting colder and colder. I am thinking end of October I will have to begin feeding Hay. I have 6 ewes and a ram and looking in to getting...
Thanks everyone! He is fine with my husband (of course!!!!) but when it comes to me he will come butting at me.. As the primary care taker ( they are my sheep!!) I hate that I can't even go into the pen to check on my ewes without feeling a threat from him. I know I tense up since he has gotten...
Our ram will be in with our ewes till December first. He is not the sweetest ram ;) so I don't want him in with the ewes while they are bred so I feel safe being in the pasture with them over winter/lambing. He will have a smaller pasture, he will be able to see the ewes through fencing, but...
Thanks so much! I will let him be then.. He actually went right with the flock!! I heard it was more stressful to keep a ram locked up out of site of the rest of the flock?? Oh well.. my girls I don't think have hit their heat cycle yet so hes pretty mellow right now and has time to relax and...
I finally found a great Dorset ram.. They usually would shear in September they left him because they weren't sure what the new owners would want. SO my question is he has a thick coat on him. We are up in Northern WI. Will it hurt him to be left till Spring time? Or should I get it done before...
Thanks! I haven't checked on here lately.. but I did go with my gut and didn't get them :( They were nice sheep! But I would like to get into PURE polypays and when I have the money to do so I will make sure they are lol! They are expensive 300-400 for one ewe and 500-800 for a ram Yikes!
Will pure polypays have any black on them?
I have responded to someone selling a flock of polypay's they were sold to them as polypays. Two are white faced 3 have a bit of black on their face, legs are a bit dark brownish?
Thanks!
I also have another question. I have 4 ewes that are only 2.5 months these ewes are going to be butchered in Novemember. I will be getting a flock of purebred polypays here this week includes 2- 3 year old ewes, 2- 1 1/2 year old ewes and a 4 month old Ram.
Will this Ram if put in...
Thanks for the advice. I am still going to purchase him. I have seen him in person and besides for the terrible shaving job he was sound, and super healthy. As for standards he won blues the last two years at our local fair so I guess I am not sure what you mean by poor legs? yes I agree he is a...
Her daugther got him off an auction. They have a few other baby dolls and he bigger then them so she thought southdown. His papering they got said southdown. The owner said he looks smaller in the picture because he is on a hill.. I haven't seen him yet and gosh I don't even know if I could...
Can you elaborate for me??? I need more information then to rethink it. What our your concerns?? This will be my first ram and breeding season I am hear to learn.
I am picking up my 2 year old Ram this Sunday he is a Southdown. I have ile de france/dorset cross ewes he will be breeding with. I am breeding for meat purposes. I am just nervous this guy will be two short for my cross of ewes?!!
Here is a picture of one of the ewes (these guys are only 2...
I have had a terrible time with one of my Ram bottle lambs for the last 2 months... he was a triplet (hence bottle baby) he is half the size he should be still looks like a 3 week old lamb. He won't put weight on at all. He had started out after 3 weeks of having him with a terrible coughing...
