    Poop question - sorry!

Update: electrolytes seem to be working as intended. He’s definitely drinking more , and what goes in must come out eh? Thanks all!

    Poop question - sorry!

He’s 16, and nothing has changed except the weather. He is never stalled - has a pretty roomy corral and multiple feeding spots (and a goat to entertain him). It’s tricky to heat his water because we’re solar and have to be careful of our batteries. I’m going to start giving him electrolytes and...

    Poop question - sorry!

I think he’s not drinking as much. Definitely less poo. Today was almost half of normal. Otherwise he seems himself - good appetite and normal attitude and activity. He has a salt lick and I know he uses that. How concerned should I be?

    The basics to horses

Just chiming in - a true friend will respect your need to protect your land for your own use. If he doesn't respect your concern for how you want to steward your land, and your friendship suffers as a result, then he wasn't your friend. He was using you.

    Poop question - sorry!

Hi all! I finally got my first horse after a lifetime of dreaming. He's been at our place for over 6 months and doing great. But I've noticed in the last few days there aren't as many poo piles as I was used to. 8 a day has been normal, but in the last few days we're down to 6-ish. They all...

Need help with alternative to AA batteries

Hmmm. All ingenious ideas. But I already have the door installed, and 80% of the time it works great. I’m going to continue to search for alternate battery configurations. Thanks for your suggestions though - I got a kick out of all of them. :)

Need help with alternative to AA batteries

We finally made our move to off-grid living this year and I have a lot to learn. Here’s my current challenge. I have a battery-operated auto door installed on my chicken coop that works great when it has power. I made an external insulated box to keep the 4 AA batteries from overheating or...

Help us choose the new BYH header image!

I like the first one, because I never thought of bees as herd animals before, but now that I see them in that context, they TOTALLY belong in the header! Yay bees!

Wow - 2 years! I admit I'm ignorant about many things goat-related. Why the long wait? Please, if you will, fill me in on what made her hard to find (other than her beautiful face) . . . maybe the story-telling will help pass the time while you wait for her to kid . . . . :P

Slightly off topic, but I think Spotz is the prettiest goat I've ever seen. I very much hope, if we ever get in a place to have some of our own, that I'm lucky enough to find one like her. My fingers are crossed for you that she has three doelings as beautiful as she is. Best wishes!

Doeling kidding- pic of doeling with her baby

I'm new, and admittedly ignorant - is it maybe a good thing that your dog found the baby? I would think that, if it did indeed slip under the door, that if it hadn't been attended by the dog it might have died? In spite of making the nursing more complicated? This is me looking for education...
