Our doe (who has some weird udder condition) lost one kid (probably due to another goat crushing it). Now she only has one kid left, and her udder is lopsided already. Do I need to milk her out? I'm thinking once a day, perhaps in the morning. And the kid could nurse the rest of the day.
If...
Ok...I don't have any hibiclens, but I gave her a topical dose of one syringe of TODAY on her udder. I didn't put any where the kids would nurse, though. Hopefully they won't drink a whole lot of that antibiotic in the milk...
Yes, but see, the lumps ARE more on the smaller side. They're more like "bumps" than "lumps" anyway. Just think of swollen acne in numerous places on the poor doe's udder and that's how it seems. :/
I saw a poster on some other board describe them as "hard BB sized bumps right under the skin;"...
Just read this in the Merck Veterinary Manual: " Most dairy and pygmy goats are bedded on wasted hay. Wet bedding contributes to development of coccidiosis in kids and staphylococcal impetigo on the udder, commonly but erroneously known as 'goatpox.'
I think that might be it... So anyone have...
One of our does just kidded late this night/ this morning. Her udder has been quite engorged for a few weeks or so. Looking at her this morning I noticed these hard lumps on her udder. Some you can just feel but a few you can see as visible protrusions. They almost look like swelling acne...
Our goats were on spring hay and grain before I started feeding them just leafy branches and grain for a few days (less than a week, I think.) Then I switched them back to spring hay and grain. Monday our one young doeling had noticeable scours. I didn't really notice anything else unusual...
My one lactating doe has cold teats. She has a really lumpy udder and is drying up. I was wondering if this is the beginning of "blue bag"? It is only the half inch or so of teats near the end. The rest of the udder feels normal.
I have a doe who's been lactating for a month or two, and within the last week or so I've noticed a tough "cartilagey" thickness running from beneath her tail down the middle of the udder, between the two halves.
Is this a normal result of lactation? Maybe she's pregnant and emptying out a...
An update: now she has lumps in both udders, mostly near the base of the teats, where they join the udder. I'm afraid these are permanent scar tissuing of the mammary glands? Maybe it is CHRONIC MASTITIS. There are also two lumps way up on the udder almost to the tail. Her milk production...
Err, I kinda forgot to mention that she just got a sub-Q shot of penicillin this morning, after we got concerned by the nodules. :D
Will the combination of penicillin and oxy still be synergistic by, say, tomorrow morning?
We are reluctant to keep using the penicillin because the doe's original...
