    It's been a sad day

i use a nest box with a rim that sits down in a cut out of the wire. they can crawl over and fall in on their own. if she lines it with fur the smell of the recessed nest box will draw them. also her burrowing instinct makes her more likely to have them down there.

Buying a Jersey Cow/or Calf.... What should I look for what to avoid?

i agree to buy from a farm before the auction sale. Every cow that has been in a harsh production farm will have a different personality and shorter life span. raising a bottle baby is a lot of work but your cow will be easier to work with all the rest of her years. Jersey cows can be very...

    Calf down for a month

i have seen an animal "learn" to walk again after an injury where the couldn't feel their feet. an animal like that is a big gamble because you can quickly invest so much time and money. most likely it will be put down anyway. i hope they have him in a barn with room to walk if he tries one...

rescue skinny cow still having runs after worming-advice please

i am in lebanon. she made a slightly firmer plop today. may just take her longer to adjust. before with other animals runs would firm up in a day or two. she is gaining weight. i wish i could post pics. lost the phone camera cable. there was a reason she was free! i know i was taking a...

rescue skinny cow still having runs after worming-advice please

she does have the runs but i am not sure about the cronic wasting symptom. she is putting weight back on in a pasture by herself. if we don't find another cure we might have to get the vet out to test her. that might be the reason she was culled to the guy who gave her to me. that would be...

rescue skinny cow still having runs after worming-advice please

ok i don't know much about this cow's back history but i can give the info i have. She is a 5 yr old jersey with a bad leg that couldn't compete at the feeder with the bigger cows. she looks wormy and really shoots out runs. as bad as she looks she has already put on weight by comparing the...

    milk taste question's??

i was raised on Jersey milk and am very spoiled. i want fresh milk for my family(and allergy sensitve child) but only have one acre now. a website claims that sheeps milk is not "sheepy" tasting but i was wondering if it could pass for cows milk? i have raised goats and sheep but don't like...

Mini Cow Video on MSN - Miniature Cows, Big Advantage

mini cows are all over and the prices are all around too. they can go down with the economy because they aren't used by big ranches and they get viewed as pets. they are great for small property and i am hoping to find a mini milker one of these days. around here a dexter heifer has been...

Boy am I new to this!

be wary of bulls, dairy or beef breeds. they are programmed to be protectors of the herd. your lawn mower or dragging tarp could be a monster to them. most fence is a suggestion to a big animal. it's better not to see if it stops a 2000 lb mad bull. watch for a cold hard stare. laying down...
