Larsen Poultry Ranch - homesteading journey

I need to go through my records and make a decision on one of the rabbits. Currently we have 12: 5 male and 7 female. I plan to keep all the females and breed them this spring, and figure out if I should replace any later on. 2 males are planned culls, just need time to get it done.1 is...

The rain has been annoying. It keeps raining on the weekends instead of the weekdays, I haven't been able to get much done outside. This weekend there's a blizzard warning up the hill. Depending on how far down in elevation it goes we might get some snow. Argh. Grass and weeds are growing like...

I guess it's been a while since I posted. Life has been busy. The baby is 5 months old now and kicking his legs like crazy, he's probably going to be rolling soon. He is a very happy baby and smiles and giggles a ton. He loves watching his big brother. Munchkin 1 is getting into everything and...

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

Do you know the model of the baby Kubota? My hubby has been wanting to get a small tractor that I can use to move garden stuff around. We currently have a modified lawnmower my brother Frankensteined to be a tiller and pull a trailer. The engine is apparently the wrong size? So it snaps a belt...

So far I think he's not messing with the stitches. It looks like a scab right now. Stitches come out on Monday. I had stitches when I was 3, he's almost a mirror image of mine, it's on my right cheek and mine was due to a rooster attack. Monday night munchkin 1 threw up all over hubby's truck...

Maybe I jinxed us with that last post. Got home Saturday after visiting with family as it was getting dark. Hubby went to unlock the door while carrying half our gear/stuff while I followed behind carrying munchkin 2 plus stuff and munchkin 1 walked himself. Except munchkin 1 was full of...

The kids are at MILs today while I work. I tried to get ready early enough to paint before work but no dice. I'm already taking Wed off so I don't want to start workdays late this week. Hubby is not going to be happy but I'm going to have to paint after work. Baby is usually pretty good, just...

It's rained several times since we finished the roof, so far no leaks and the eaves are really nice for keeping the water off the side of the house. Definitely going to need gutters though, the water action has formed a line in the ground where it drips off the roof. The exterior of the walls...

I've been trying to post but kept getting an error which refused to load byh for over a week. Not sure why it was erroring but seems to be working now. Baby is almost sleeping through the night! He's over 10 pounds and has cute little arm rolls now. Definitely has my hubby's ears. He is...

That sounds awesome but I'd be terrified I'd lose the card it it stayed outside. What I'm trying to get set up is a map of the bed/plant locations along with the spreadsheets to track the data. I have Microsoft Access, which is a database system, so it'll end up there and hopefully I'll be able...

Larsen Poultry Ranch - homesteading journey

Guess it's been a while since I've posted. Munchkin 2 is finally starting to sleep a bit better at night. Hubby blocked the garden gates a little better and combined with the recent rain causing plant growth, the deer don't seem to be attacking. I removed all the pumpkin plants as they hadn't...

Awesome job on the niddy noddy and the combs!' I've seen some people make the fiber combs using those onion grabber thingies, the tines would probably be thinner than nails.

All the plywood sheets got put on and the underlayment paper stuff too, before the rain. The rest of the shingles are ordered but not picked up yet. The rain hasn't been too hard today, mostly on and off. The flashing around the fireplace flue was planned to be changed by hubby, so they put a...

    Dinner rabbits, Journal

Are you still having rodent problems? I have j feeders that didn't come with lids, and was going through a ton of feed and started seeing rodent poop. I cut some 2*4s to the width of the feeders and used those to block off access to the feed. Feed consumption decreased by a lot.

Roof is still in progress, I'm hoping they'll get it completed this week though. They are busting through the popout ceiling today.
