    Aural/ear hematoma

My 4 week old lamb has developed an aural hematoma. We're not entirely sure how he got it. My husband drained it last night, but today it has returned. I understand that it will probably clot and stay lumpy without intervention but I'm not sure whether to continue draining it or just leave it be...

    Umbilicus cord

When do lambs drop their umbilical cords? I have a 15 day old bottle lamb with a very stuck-on umbilical cord. When will he lose it? Thanks!!

What breed lamb do I have?

Lol @ Brown Sheep :) The Fat Tail sheep I've seen on Google have broad, fat tails (hence the name I guess!) but this guy has a long thin tail so I don't know what to make of that.

What breed lamb do I have?

I never even thought about the colour of his hooves! Thanks for that! :)

What breed lamb do I have?

I adopted a newborn orphan lamb from an abattoir. I can't get the employee who slipped him to me in trouble because they're meant to kill them so I can't ask at the source but I'm curious just for myself to know what breed of lamb I have. My research indicates he might be a Merino. The employee...

    Orphaned lamb off his milk

Aggieterpkatie - With respect to CochinBrahma, I don't think she knew what she was saying either, but we've all been newbies at this :) Watchdogps - I don't believe he's grinding his teeth, nor do I believe he's in pain. I'll admit, I could be wrong, but despite the evidence to the contrary, it...

    Orphaned lamb off his milk

Yes, I've since learnt that their rumen doesn't start working properly til a few weeks but I thought that's what he was doing when he was chewing on nothing. I never said he was orphaned at 14 days, he's only 7 days old and has been an orphan since the day he was born, but with all due respect...

    Orphaned lamb off his milk

Update: The little guy (we've named him Mocco) has turned around and is feeding normally again. He must have just filled up on the exciting new hay I gave him :) Today he has had 3 decent feeds and I haven't had to pry his mouth open for the last 2. I'm so relieved :) Everyone's entitled to an...

    Orphaned lamb off his milk

No he has no fever. Yes I use warm water to mix it up and reheat it before feeding it to him because as suggested - I mix up a batch the night before for the following day. He had been drinking about 150ml (around 5oz) every couple of hours but now I can only get him to drink if I pry his mouth...

    Lamb shuddering constantly

My 6 day old bottle lamb is shuddering a lot. Like with every breath his head and whole body shudder - even when asleep. This happens on and off throughout the day. I know they shiver to regulate their body temperature but this is very different - it's more "violent". What could be wrong? This...

    Orphaned lamb off his milk

Hi there, I'm hoping to get some advice about an orphaned lamb I've taken on. I've never raised a lamb. I have no other sheep. I rescued him from an abattoir where he was born. His mother was "processed" about 8 hours after his birth and he was going to be shot and thrown on the scrap heap so I...
