… do you disinfect teats and then use balm? Or do you balm and then disinfect?
Winter cold and wind in my world are so drying, that I will need to use a balm to keep my girl from chapping. What I haven’t found is guidance in whether I apply moisturizing balm before or after disinfecting her...
I read forum posts earlier this year from folks having egg production issues they thought might be tied to the Purina feed they were using, as they reported egg laying increased when they switched to a different brand.
I seek out smaller mills and lower prices while maintaining the proper...
I assume you are asking about Country Companion. If not, … oops.
This is right off the back of a bag I just bought. Not sure where Purina operates from, but a comparison to locations should be pretty easy to check.
Update: the SSS came in today. I poured a bit on chamois cloth, folded it, and stuffed it in a smallish container for a few hours to permeate.
At milking time, I wiped both momma and baby with the cloth. I actually watched a fly head for a lower leg and get within an inch. It seemed to stop...
On recommendations here, I picked up some fly spray for the goats. We had a ton of rain this spring and the flies and mosquitos are horrible.
The spray I picked up has pyrethrins and seems to work a little. I am a bit alarmed that it cautions against getting it on skin, even though it is...
Goats have been here for ten-ish days. I have learned an important lesson. Do not have a wooden floor.
I had a couple of large wooden pallets that I thought the goats would find more comfortable than the gravel pad the barn sits on.
To make them more cushy, I picked up a couple of rubber...
Forgot all about SSS.
I just looked. Avon is still around (avon.com). They actually package SSS as an insect repellent, these days. Both with and without an SPF factor. Huh.
Poor baby. At least you recognized the issue and addressed it immediately.
I like the idea of citronella (and the scent). I’ll look for that one first, when I go into town.
With goats’ metabolism being so weird and very few commercial formulas specific to them, I need a fly spray that’s safe to use on dairy goats.
With the wet spring warming up, mosquitos and deer flies are out. I’d like something I can use on my girls to keep the nasty-bities off and still use...
For others interested in trying iodophor, it seems to be commonly used to sanitize brewing equipment. So, if you have a brewing supply store near you, it should be available there if the ranch stores don’t carry it.
Probably need to pay attention to dilutions, if that becomes the source.
