Are any particular meat rabbit breeds better at converting forage to meat? I would like to switch my meat rabbits to 100% forage and cut out pellets. Not sure if my NZW will still grow quickly though.
Which breeds are best to cross to get the offspring to grow fastest? For example will a NZW / Californian cross grow faster than a NZW / NZW? I wont be using the offspring for breeding, only meat. Also, should the larger breed be the buck or the doe? Or does it not matter?
I was planning on saving a doe from my current litter. My current doe has a 6ft by 3ft run with a shelter attached. The litter is weaned at 6 weeks old. When they reach 12 weeks, i will select the doe i want to save and butcher the rest. Is it safe to take this saved doe (12 weeks old) and put...
If you breed that intensive, i would say she will be done at about 3 years old. You can keep breeding her until she has a decline in number of kits delivered. For example, is she has 9kits, 10, 9 , 8, 8, 3. After she has 3 kits, I would breed her ONE more time, to see if it was a fluke. If she...
You cant go wrong with a New Zealand. Whites are the biggest of the NZ's and tend to be cheaper. I have been searching for a long time for NZ Reds with no luck. If you can get your hands on some, get them. You can make a killing selling their offspring as breeding stock ($40 each or more)
If you notice the rabbits jumping out and having trouble getting back in, turn the nestbox on its side. I usually take out the nest box at about 4 weeks old (NZW). Basically, when you notice them spending more time OUT of the nestbox than IN it, take it out.
so lets say she delivers the first litter and the next one a few days later. What are the chances one litter would be alive? I really need this litter, so i dont want both to be born still
I bred my doe a week ago. Today, she somehow escaped and got with a buck. Lets say she was already pregnant and also lifted for the buck today, what are the chances she got double pregnant? I heard some people say this is very rare to happen, but others say it is common. Help?
I would give them at least 30 days to calm down and get used to everything. The are probably on high alert, so they may not breed successfully, or they might abort
I bred my doe last week and im pretty sure it was successful. Well, today when i went to feed the rabbits, i found the Doe in the Bucks cage!! There was a lot of pulled fur, like they had a struggle. I have no clue how she got in there! The top of the cages are about 2 feet high, with the lid on...
My NZW doe had a litter of 9. They are 5 weeks old and eating solid food and drinking water. I was planning of weaning at 6 weeks, but the doe is losing weight. I already rebred her, because I need 2 litters over the summer. She will get the rest of the year off. Should i wean them because they...
I have 5 NZW does and 4 NZW bucks. They are pure bred from good breeding stock (not registered). I wanted to sell them at 12 weeks old as breeding stock. Is $20 for each doe and $15 for each buck a good price at 12 weeks?
My NZW doe gave birth to 9 kits. I wanted to squeeze in 2 litters this summer, so I was planning on rebreeding at 4 weeks and weaning at 6 weeks. Does this sound good? Also, should I split the bucks and does? I am butchering at 12 weeks and I dont know if they can breed each other before that...
