    Goat ill

Greetings. Many thanks for the opinions and concerns. They are appreciated. There is one thing I would like to clarify. There was no apparent injury to the goat prior to the beginning of the swelling of her abdomen. It appears that something opened up in her digestive tract releasing...

    Goat ill

I agree. I have been around cattle, horses, mules, goats, dogs, cats, and various fowl, off and on, for better than 60 years. I have never seen this before in any of them. I have never cared for this part of the relationship between myself and my critters. I am not sure that a vet can save...

    Goat ill

Greetings. Attached are photos of the goat and the discharge. You can easily see the size of the "bump" and see the discharge protruding from the perforation. She is still eating and urinating. I am going to try to create someway to hold her while I examine the situation. The discharge looks to...

    Goat ill

I ordered a thermometer. I have no problem with doubling the first dose on a goat. I have had that done to me. LOL I have a bottle of povidone-iodine. If I can probe the hole and determine it is not overly deep, I may try a weakened solution to rinse it out.

    Goat ill

Everybody has horns. Green like snot. The hole is not overly visible, but appears to be no more than a inch or so based on the discharge I saw. Not sure I can get her to hold still well enough for a thermometer (do not have one I would trust as suitable) or even for an exam short of hog tying...

    Goat ill

It does appear to be internal to the abdominal cavity as opposed to external. There was no sign of any type of perforation in the skin in that area prior to today. The distension is currently about the size of a volleyball. I thought at first it was some type of bloat, though it did not...

    Goat ill

Greetings. I have a female goat that developed a downward distended abdomen. Her appetite has been good, and it appears she has been defecating and urinating normally. She has been showing some weakness and signs of malnutrition, as well and loss of hair. I assumed it was worms and began a...

    Two handed banding

Got it done yesterday. Pretty much as I had expected; a great deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Mostly loudly wailing for Momma. I found something of interest when I went to band him. One of his testicles was very much underdeveloped compared to the other. I had to dig in a bit to be sure...

    Two handed banding

I quite often do research and figure things out myself. This time I decided to inquire regarding this subject. Thanks for the help. Yes, the irony is not lost on me if he nips me in the nether regions. He is the only survivor of 4 kids born to my oldest doe on the the coldest night here in some...

    Two handed banding

Thanks. So you sat on his head? :) My goats have a habit of nipping at just about anything in reach. Maybe I can wear a cup. Hmmm ... Bit of irony if I were de-jeweled as well. :) I will give it a try when the rain stops.

    Two handed banding

Greetings all. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to secure a kid when banding? :) I wish to make banding a two handed / one man operation. I have thought on it for some time, but have not attempted to put any of my concepts into practice. Thanks for any help.
