    Viral hemorrhagic disease

Thanks, I'm devastated. I've really enjoyed having rabbits and producing our own meat was another step in becoming self sufficient. We will continue with growing our own veg, microgreens and keeping our 5 cheeky hens. We've learnt a lot from our experience and will consider getting rabbits...

    Viral hemorrhagic disease

An update... Both my mother does died and so did all their kits, which were all under two weeks old. I've spoken with a animal charity in the UK called the RSPCA - they have confirmed by my description that its RHDV2. Do you have both strains (RHDV1&2) in the US? RHDV2 while there is a...

    Viral hemorrhagic disease

Our NZ doe was ill about two weeks ago - I just put it down to the cold. She has now recovered. And now our 2 and a half week old kits are dying with the same symptoms. Our Californian has stopped eating too. There must be some virus spreading through the herd...

Thanks. Testing is just so expensive in the UK.

    Viral hemorrhagic disease

Thanks @promiseacres I am concerned that we might of had this virus in the herd since the summer when our first two rabbits died and its just reappeared now, possibly because of the cold weather we've had here in the UK recently. If I continue to breed will I be able to eat or sell the...

    Viral hemorrhagic disease

England. Vet bills are extremely high around here and so an autopsy I think is out of the question. The symptoms were almost exactly like VHD and If not that then another deadly infectious disease.

    Viral hemorrhagic disease

What do we do?? I think two of my Rex rabbits died of Viral hemorrhagic disease today. They both went floppy, stopped eating and drinking and had fits. About 7 or 8 months ago I had two rex rabbits die in the same way; at the time I thought it was the heat but now I believe it was a virus...

When to intervene and bottle feed?

Thanks @Niele da Kine, The kits are still very skinny - mum is in and out of the nest box all day so I'm sure they are getting some milk, they just never look plump like other kits I've had. I read somewhere that raspberry and nettle tea are a good supplement for nursing mothers and she seems...

When to intervene and bottle feed?

My Californian doe is a first time mum who had 7 kits 3 days ago. One died which I expected as it was very small compared to the others. I am concerned that she isn't feeding them enough - all 6 seem to be very skinny. Should I intervene and give the kits kitten milk or is powdered goats milk...

    Stillborn Kits

@Ridgetop, I think you might be right. I didn't know that rabbits had two side! I had also taken the nest box out and my other doe who was due on the same day didn't deliver any kits at all, so I wouldn't have had a foster mother. Is it possible to hand rear a single kit? @messybun Ground...

    Stillborn Kits

Thanks @Ridgetop & @Niele da Kine, I don't think it was a bad presentation as I watched her give birth to four kits within about 20 mins and she did fine except they were stillborn. I don't understand why she waited two days to give birth to her fifth kit which I'm sure was stillborn as she...
