    Rabbit Processors NC

Hi Brett, I'm also in North Carolina and yes you do need to have rabbits processed at an FDA facility to sell to the public. The only one I know of is Brittany Ridge Farms near Kinston. They changed the laws recently and not many people are providing that service anymore. Good luck!

    Pellet gun for dispatching

We have decided to go the pellet gun route for dispatching our rabbits, but want to make sure we have a strong enough gun. Will this suffice? https://www.airgundepot.com/daisy-408-bb-pellet-pistol-kit.html Thanks all!

Help! Almost 3 week old kits orphaned.

No, not eating pellets yet. I put a shallow bowl of calf Manna down for them but they don't seem to have taken any yet. Started bottle feeding yesterday which is a slow and messy process. They keep biting the nipples off! Is there a better way to feed them other than a rubber nipple? I also...

Help! Almost 3 week old kits orphaned.

Went out to find one of my does dead this morning. She has four kits that are almost 3 weeks old. They have not yet started eating pellets so I think I need to supplement them somehow. I assume it's too late to give them to another nursing doe? What is the best milk replacement and how often do...

    Withholding feed?

Do you all withhold feed before processing? Or does that just stress the rabbits? Also I'd love any tips to reducing stress during transport. We are taking our rabbits to a professional processor so that we can sell them to the public and it's a two-hour drive. Thanks!

Nest box alternative for hot weather

We are due to get a hot snap here later this week (90+degrees) and I'm concerned that our 12 day old kits will be too hot in the nest boxes. Is there something I can give/put them in them as an alternative that might be cooler?

    Best fly control method

What have you all found that is the best method to control flies around your outdoor rabbitry? We also keep bees so it needs to be something non-toxic. I've always felt like fly strips attract more flies than they catch so looking for some new ideas.

    Question about litter sizes

Do you find that your does tend to have the same size litter every time? We've bred our new does twice and one of them has had small litters both times. Is there a chance this will change with future litters? She's a great mom and has fat little babies, just wish she had a few more :(

    Weaning questions

Hi all! I have kits that are 4 weeks old today. They are all eating straight from Mom's feeder. I haven't seen them nurse in days. Too soon to start the weaning process? Mom seems to be tiring of kits. My second question is if I can combine kits from different litters in their new cages? Will...

    Removing nest box

If I leave the nesting box, should I pull out all the old materials and replace? I read somewhere about nesting boxes being a potential source of eye infections. I'm guessing because the nesting material gets soiled and breeds bacteria? But if I replace it with fresh bedding I'd think that would...

    Removing nest box

Hi all! Kits are 16 days old today so I'm considering removing the nest box. Low temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s for the next week. Should I give them a small box or will just some hay in the cage be enough to keep them warm?

Skinny kit... too late to foster?

Round little belly this morning. Just so tiny compared to the others but maybe he can catch up since he's getting fed now. Daphne's kits seemed better fed this morning as well. Concerning that she is only producing enough milk for 5 kits though :(

Skinny kit... too late to foster?

Thanks Tale of Tails! I'll give fostering a chance tonight and see if Mr. Skinny looks like he's gotten anything in the morning. If not, we'll try joint custody :)

Skinny kit... too late to foster?

No Scooby-Doo, but our buck's name is Fred :) I may try pulling the bigger ones out tonight and just leave the three smallest. I just have to figure out where to put them because I don't have a spare nest box :) None of Daphne's kits are roly-poly, but I also have been checking them...

Skinny kit... too late to foster?

Hi all! I have two does that kindled on the same night (Daphne and Velma), one week ago. Both litters seem to be doing fine, however Velma's seems to be getting more milk and growing faster. There is one kit in particular from Daphne's litter that is very skinny and I don't believe is getting...
