I have a chance at getting a lovely young buck who has not been disbudded. :barnie He's about 8 to 10 weeks old. How complex and nasty would it be to band him or have his horns removed some other way? What would you recommend?

The horns are maybe an inch.

If you can get the disbudder over the horns, you could still burn them. Otherwise, just wait till they are bigger and then band them.

Maybe paste?

Do you want to keep him for breeding, cause you could get a horned wether to keep him company if you dont mind :)

The paste is only for when they are horn buds. Once the horns start growing, the paste is not an option.

What do you think? Here's the picture the owner sent me.

You "might" be able to get a calf size disbudder over them. I'd certainly give that a try first - you can just try it cold to see if it will go over them before heating it up.

He would be hard to hold still for that. He looks to big for a kid box.
Good Luck.

I was looking on this thread and was wondering what "banding" is. I know you can disbud them when they are very young but have never heard of banding a goat's horns. Can someone explain? :)
