Well, a few months ago, we had our little Geronimo born here and decided to let his mom raise him. We normally do bottles but decided with all of the chaos of building a home, we would just let her take care of him. Yesterday, I busted him!

At just over 6 weeks old, he managed to get yearling doe Luna and he definitely did the deed. We were breeding her to our older buck anyway but I guess we will see if she took. I will be surprised if she does and if not, we will go with our original plan to breed her with the older buck. He is now separated from the other does, the little love machine!

Anyone ever have a buckling be a daddy so young?

Just because he got the deed done doesn't mean he was able to "complete the mission" so to speak. Little bucks do a lot of "practicing" before they are ever able to seal the deal. It is possible, but highly unlikely. let us know how this turns out. o_O

Exactly what I am thinking. I mean, there was "evidence" but it doesn't mean it was, umm..."loaded". Yeah, I have heard that they can be fertile that young, and they start practicing the day they are born. But never actually saw this

I am marking on my calendar to check her for heat again and would just be amazed if she took.

Not 6 weeks but we think one of ours may have bred one of our yearlings
They are 12 weeks
Capable but not sure he got it done
Hope not wasn't the plan
But she is big enough just hate to have to do DNA testing
The last time we had an accident a doe got into the buck pen but in that particular case we just didn't register the kids

I have some little LaMancha kids that are 2.5 weeks old and that little buck is chasing skirt already. I think he was born doing that...brat for sure.

Same with sheep, I see my lambs start this behavior within the first couple days. Makes it fun when you have non-country friends out to 'see the cute little lambs' and they start jumping on and riding each other...

"Oh, they're just playing...."

LOL well little guy is still at it---we separated him and he has twice now managed to get back into the doe pen, despite the hotwire. Brat!

However, the doe he was actively going after (and who was allowing it) is pregnant---but not by him. In bathing and shaving her, I discovered she is developing and udder and must have taken when I tried to breed her a few months back (YAY!).
