Excellent post./\ /\
"Balanced" ration is always the key.
Been 1/2 dozen years since I raised swine, but we got completely away from shelled corn in any livestock ration. Here's why..not huge gains, but they're there:

Depending on climate and rainfall, grass clippings can be a 'not very good' supplement. It's often just a high % water content and very little protein, even if it does taste better to them (more palatable) .
I assume the poster has had a vet check feces count to determine if there truly is an internal parasite problem..

'hot' feeds, as you said, create heat. More energy is expended in the digestion of it and a medium needs to exist to ensure more energy is not being burned in digestion than benefits derived.

Excellent post. I plan to reply with more than this "Thank You!", I just need the time to sit and write. Been busy around here. Ultimately, I think genetics and protien have a lot to do with it. For us to purchase a hog ration here, by the tonne, is more than 8x the price of grain. If I need to switch to hog ration, they will become unaffordable and we will not keep them -- it is just the gilts with the growth issue, our boar is still growing and has put on a significant amount of weight in this warmer weather, so genetics must be a large part.

Again, will respond properly soon! Thanks so much again.
