After all that trouble we had with disbudding and money spent...I dont think it worked. All of them look like this. What do u think. And should we try it again or is it to late. TIA

It did not work. I don't remember if you ended up doing them or if the vet did them but either way they should not have the growth in the middle like that. It is not too late, but it will be more of a dehorning than a disdudding. Are you keeping them?

Typically kids are disubudded before 2 weeks and on a buckling even that is pushing it; 10 days would be better. I did some mini alpine bucklings at 5 days.

The vet did them. Yes we are keeping them. The oldest ones were 20 days old when we had them done. The younger ones were less than that. Now they are both a month. So dehorning...does that mean cutting them out? If so. Then they will just have to have horns. :(

So pretty much I paid $250 dollars for castrations and burning for no reason? Sigh....

Unfortunately it does mean cutting them out but at this age it might not be that traumatic. I did a standard buck once, no fun, and I need to do another one. I would take them back to the vet for a consult.

Had the vet done this before? 20 days is pretty old but my vet has done them at the age for me; I won't do them when they are that big so I let the vet. She sedates them, numbs the area, cuts the horn bud flush with the head, burns, ices, burns, ices, and wakes them up.

Well she had disbudded some in the past. But i dont think she had time to let the iron heat up. I tool my own. We almost lost one of the little boys. Took 4hrs to wake him up. And he was still groggy when we took bim home. Could we do it at hime or would a vet have to? I know after they grow so far its a little more involved.

At this point the horn base is probably too big to fit in the hole in the iron. I started doing some of my own last year but before that I had friends do them and they would always feel the horn base and tell me I waited too long for them to burn them.

You might read this thread and see if it gives you any ideas. But if I was keeping them they would go to a vet and get redone one way or another. I don't like horns.
