Found this site from Backyard Chickens.

We have a small homestead of eight acres, about five are woods. The woods have been neglected for decades, and need tending. Lots of weed trees, brambles...lots of work ahead.

Our soil has a lot of clay, so we're using BTE to condition it.

We've put in our little orchard this year. Apples, pears, plums, and cherries, along with blueberry bushes and currants. We also have about 30 young, middle aged, and older black walnut trees. We're hoping to add some English walnuts next spring.

This spring we got our first chickens, and next year we plan to add rabbits.

Hoping to meet some like-minded people, and learn a lot.

Welcome from Ohio! Lots of folks here with 5 to 10 acres (I have 6). Any thoughts of getting sheep or goats? Goats, and some breeds of sheep, are great for clearing out underbrush, and their droppings help improve the soil, too.

We have thought of that...but I'm not sure I'm physically "up" for goats right now. We're keeping them in mind, when we can afford some fencing.

One of the issues is the woods is separated from the arable land/house by a very large and deep drainage area. And it's uphill from the house. There's one easy access point, and I'm the one who'd be caring for them. :th

It's a great idea! Thank you so much.
