I recently brought home 2 pygmies as members of the family and our little girl "Lamb Chop" has really latched onto the dog, Max. I think this may have happened initially because we hadn't brought her brother Gary home at the same time due to his banding. Her attachment is super cute and heart warming especially when we take the dog for walks and she trots along kicking her little legs around while following his every move but when she losses him from her line of site at any point or when we try to bring him inside without her she bleats frantically. She will stand in the rain over going to the goat house if its to have him back in her presence which is unheard of. I mean that quite literally. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to correct this without causing her much distress???

Oh oh, you now have a house goat which is sweet but something none of us need long term. I don't really know if there is much you can do other than let her cry it out and hope that she bonds to her brother again. I know that isn't much help and will surely tug at your heart as much as it does at hers.

And welcome to BYH from very sunny and HOT CA. !!!

I DO have a house goat, 2 now. She has bonded with brother goat but Max is still her go-to. She now follows Max everywhere and brother goat follows her, her and her brother do play together and lay together etc, she just seems to lose it when Max is taken out of the equation. I have been taking Max indoors during the day and she'll cry it out then her and her brother go about their business but it starts all over again anytime she see's max, and periodically in between. She will run top speed to wedge herself through the back door when she see's us bringing him in and yes, it definitely pulls at my heart strings. Maybe my husband will just have to get used to having "House Goats".

Thank you for the advice! We're in Pittsburgh PA :) Its definitely a different way of living with goats and Max seems to bring them comfort so yes, He's been out with them at night and he actually likes chasing the wild animals out of the driveway.

Thank you! We're in Pittsburgh PA and I completely agree with it being an Adventure. I've put a good routine in place that includes a long walk with the dog, inside time which is mostly them snoozing while I watch some TV and then Max has been sleeping outside with them at night. Its been wonderful having them with us!

As of this point, they're in a phase that they could learn to get over, but that is a smart idea.
