We are thinking about getting bees but I'm curious if there are any "bee protection" laws or rules and where I might find them. My concerns are our new neighbors (apparently country living is getting popular and everyone has decide to move out near us :\ we've never had neighors until recently)
Are there laws about them spraying their lawn/gardens with pesticides?
Also, every now and then DOT comes by and sprays the trees that are near the road! (instead of the trimming them:mad:)

ANYWAY just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a few good websites, my Google search seemed so broad I couldn't really narrow it down to what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance!!!
I live in Eastern NC

Generally speaking, bee keeping is only an issue inside "city limits"... Though many towns and cities are now passing ordinances that allow it. I know of no laws prohibiting spraying pesticides or weed killers, fertilizers, etc. In a "free" country, you should be able to keep bees if you want, so long as you aren't infringing on anyone else's right to peace, health and happiness. Down here in TX we have Africanized bees so have to be much more careful with hive placement. I also have livestock so need to make sure they can't get to/on the hives. Some folks place a 6' privacy fence around their hives (out away a ways to allow ease of access to work them) so the bees have to fly up before they fly out, thereby keeping them above head height for most folks.

Dealing with the pesticides and herbicides is real tough... Bees fly in a 3 mile radius from the hive so if you're in ag country, your bees are going to suffer. :idunno You just do the best you can do and hope for the best.

Thanks! This will be a project for next year, I still have lots of research to do! And we definitely live smack dab in the middle of Ag country. So i guess that's something to think about.
Thanks again! :)
