We have two yearlings that are very small and are not growing appropriately. They have access to clean grass hay, minerals, and baking soda. Any other ideas?
Have you done a fecal check for parasites? Heavy worm loads can slow growth. Also, you don't mention grain or feed at all... Have you had the hay tested for properties? It may be poor nutritionally and not be providing all they need to grow well. I feed all my goats pelleted feed while they are growing.
Thank you, we just had the vet out today and she's doing a fecal to check for parasites. We're also adding a show pelleted feed. Hay is a bit rough here, Colorado has been so dry. All great ideas! Thank you!
Weather has been kinda all over the place... all over the place. Some folks are having trouble getting hay due to drought while others have been too wet. If you have wethers, you know to watch the calcium to phosphorus ratio right? I buy pellet feed that has ammonium chloride (AC) in it, and my mineral has AC in it also. It has no effect on does but helps prevent UC in wethers (and bucks). CA to PH should be at least 2:1 - 4:1. If you find that you do have worms, make sure to fecal retest ~10 days after treatment is finished to make sure the treatment had the desired effect.
Still no word from the Vet. We're trying a natural dewormer anyway. Found a pelleted food, but the girls are not liking it. We're going to have to find something else. They are loving all the Alfalfa. Vet said to treat for Lice even though she didn't see any. Does anyone have a natural lice treatment?
