Looks like 9 different bulls. That's quite the selection! Do you maintain all of those in your AI tank or will you be purchasing? And I think you already own one bull as you talked about poss getting a second...

@Latestarter you made me go to the tank inventory and count. We maintain 15 different bulls in our tank currently. There are also 3 4-H families that each have a few straws in our tank. I didn’t include those in the count.

We buy the straws and then just use them when we are ready. Otis is the only bull on the farm. He isn’t slotted for any initial breedings but will do cleanup to insure that all the cows are covered within our specified timeframe. (This is common practice to have a cleanup bull. You can actually rent one of the big name AI bulls for cleanup if you are willing to fork over enough cash.)

2018 breeding for 2019 calving has officially commenced!

We bred Georgia and Gatlin on 5/4. That makes them due 2/11/19. Georgia was bred to Grand Fortune and Gatlin was bred to Destiny as planned. We will know on or around 5/25 if they “stuck” or not. Maizy cycled that day too but with her being a first calf heifer, we opted to give her another three weeks to not have to support two calves and will breed her on her 5/25 cycle.

Scarlett is up next to cycle on 5/16 and we plan to breed her then.

Maxine cycled for her first time since calving and was standing last night. Went ahead and AI’d to MWJ this morning. Not sure she will stick since it’s the first round but time will tell.

Got a little behind on breeding updates...

On 5/16 Scarlett was bred to Grand Fortune. On 5/18 Elsa was bred to Black Power Play and Maddie was bred to Loaded for Bear. On 5/20 Josie was bred to Jesse James. On 5/21 Ember was bred to DCC Destiny.

Bailey is in standing heat this morning so she will be bred to Dakota Gold tonight.

Really hoping these breedings are successfull. Already looking forward to spring calving! Lol

Moxie wasn’t maintaining her weight out with the herd. This isn’t uncommon for first calf heifers and we are creep feeding also and Mallory was eating her fill in feed but it wasn’t enough. We got Moxie and Mallory in with Otis last night so that Moxie can be fed too. Moxie will now just be bred by Otis instead of attempting to AI her. We are happy with Mallory so excited about this match. We don’t believe that Moxie has cycled yet but we will be watching so that we have a date .
