Hi all!
We have chickens and BackyardChickens was very helpful. I wish I'd spent more time there before designing the coop. We just picked out two adorable Nigerian doelings, so for right now I'm looking at optimal designs for a portable sleeping shelters and a portable feeding station.

Welcome to BYH from Florida :frow alot of the people who answer questions are just getting power back on from snow storms, so more people will be jumping in to welcome you...there is alot of information for you to read in the forums about goats, fencing, emergencies, raising, housing etc. But a quick answer is draft free dry shelter, fresh water and hay available always and your breeder should provide you info. On what they are currently eating....ND are awesome.... and your going to really love this site , :)welcome and have fun

Greetings and welcome to BYH Susan, from NE TX! So glad you joined us. Where abouts in TX are you located? We have a pretty strong, active TX contingent, mostly over on the central to eastern side of the state. Congrats on your first two (of soon to be many more) goats! You'll find them highly addictive. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. You'll get to "meet" folks at the same time. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Oh, and we all love pics, so post them anytime you feel the need! Please make yourself at home!

We live in Farmersville.

Y'll might be amused by this. Daughter and I are both reading the goat books that I checked out from the library. One of them had a chapter called something like, "What to do with goats?" Daughter thought that was a silly question. She said, "You hold them and pet them".

You're about 90 miles from me (Mount Pleasant)... maybe ~60ish from @Devonviolet (near Pickton) & probably somewhere inbetween that from @Baymule (Lindale area). We have a newer member (haven't "met" him yet) @FRED DESANTIS who is north of Greenville a ways, who owns Kikos.

Hello and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here. Wait, let me get this straight.... you want to provide shelter BEFORE you get your goats?
:th:th:th:th:th:th:th

You might be the only one who does that....:lol::lol::lol:

Yeah, well, we do have experience from the chickens. We had 20 fully-feathered chickees living in the master bathroom while DH was building the chicken coop. It was much fancier than intended. I had to put my foot down and make him switch to building a small cube coop that we use as broody jail now. Man, do I wish I'd heard of the Mama Brooding Pad before we got chickees.

We also had the problem that DH confused roosting bars and nesting boxes, so there was no roosting places in the initial coop. He thought they'd sleep in the nesting boxes. I also wish we'd put the people door on the other side, then it would be easier for the chickees to do a flying dismount from the roosting bars. As it is, they sometimes smash into the hardware cloth wall.

 :yuckyuck  AH YES! We do live and learn, don’t we???

Welcome to Backyard Herds! :frow Congratulations on your two little ND doelings!!! How exciting! I remember when I got my four ND wethers. I just loved those little guys and learned so much from them, before I got my first LaMancha dairy goats. After we got our two girls, we sold the wethers, and goats have come and gone. We currently have five . .. . Three LaMancha doelings, a Nubian doeling and a Myotonic buck. One of the Lamanacha’s and the Nubian have been with our buck and the last time they were due for heat, the buck didn’t seem all that interested in them, so I’m thinking they are both bred. I am hoping for some nice, meaty kids in the Spring.

So you live in Farmersville???? Well, it just so happens, that when we
drive to Dallas, to see our daughter, we always take I-380 across, and we drive right through Farmersville! :celebrate One of these days, we will try to allow some extra time to stop by to say “hey” :frow and meet you, your chickees and little doelings - when you get them. :D

Okay, gotta go. I make natural personal care products, with essential oils, to sell. I have to put some finishing touches on and order, and then have to drive to town to deliver it, and another order, for Elderberry Syrup and Wild Lettuce. :weee
