We had a bad spell of worms. Now we are having a hard time getting the goats back from being anemic. Pale eye lids. We would like to give iron supplementation via IM injections. What dosage would you recommend? My husband says he found a site that said 1cc/25lbs but the swine dosage on bottle isn't even close to that. Just need to know recommended dosage.

Why don't you give red cell orally?
That is what our vet recommends and a lot of people have said on BYH

Can red cell be given to a pregnant goat? I so what is the doseage?

Red Cell is far a head in anemic situations. Iron is good but don’t give too much as it can get dangerous. I’m using red cell as we speak for anemia. Treat with red cell for 6 -7 days then once a week for 3-4 weeks. When color in famacha scale begins to come back, quit giving and just monitor.

Red cell is far superior as it is also giving all the nutrients necessary to build the body back up. Iron in itself is one thing but all the vitamins and minerals play a part and work together.

@Georgia Girl what stage pregnancy and why do you think you need to give it?

I bought a bottle of Red Cell, but it is labeled for horses, Is this what is being given to goats. From the lable it looks like a Multi-Vitamin and Minerals as it has Calcium, Potassium, Selenium, Copper,Zinc, Iron. I would think that if you copper bolus or give selenium and vit. e or if you have been using replamin gel that you would need to be very careful not to overdose? If this horse Red Cell, please let me know and how you are dosing? Just in case I ever need to give it? Thanks

I have a doe that is pregnant, mucus membranes of eyes, nice reddish pink, but her upper gums were very pale, I took a fecal to the vet and she said I did not have enough worms to use a wormer at this time, I told her about the gum color and she told me you could not look at a goats gums to determine anemia, that you needed to check mucus membranes of eye or do a Hgb. and Hct.
