It’s so hard to find information on deworming. What’s the best route for internal worms/parasites? Ivermectin given orally? Is that ok to do? I’m very confused about deworming. Pour-on will only help external parasites like mites right? Can I give oral and pour on around the same time or is that too much? I’ve had my 2 does for about 1 year, they had kids at the end of February, the kids still nurse a little bit. I have no way to separate them. Should the kids be dewormed now too? Or will they get enough of it from moms milk?

I have sent you a pm, but to answer your question, yes give the ivermectin orally, it is currently advised by my vet to use two de wormers at the same time to treat for parasites. I use ivermectin and Safe guard, but will explain more when we pm. Because we both live in florida, we have some of the same issues with parasite conditions.....will share what I do and you can take it from there :thumbsup
Sorry about the late response, was "busy" helping my sister turn 60 yesterday....she celebrated for four days :lol:....

Only deworm if your parasite load is high. Learn to do FAMACHA and do fecals on animals that are suspect (score 3, 4 and 5). I use a threshold of 1,000 EPG (eggs per gram) when deciding to worm or not to worm. Do not deworm if not needed. Use only 1 deworming medicine until it doesn't work anymore then upgrade to the next class. Otherwise, you'll develop parasite resistance. There are lots of videos on youtube on how to do your own fecals or you can take a poop sample to your vet and they'll do it for you. There are a lot of resources on line on the subject. Educate yourself and be a responsible keeper of your animals. http://www.sheep101.info/ is an awesome site developed by Dr. Susan Schoenian who is a sheep & goat specialist at the University of Maryland's Western Maryland Research & Education. She is amazing and has lots of webinars on how to keep sheep and goats. Good luck!

I live in Florida we have so many parasites and I’ve never wormed them I have had my two does for about a year, i think it’s time, I am about to use safeguard.

I recently went to a workshop for my area which is in Ga. near Tallahassee and we were told Safeguard is no longer effective in most areas as a wormer. They were recommending Ivermectin injectable 1 cc per 25 lbs given po, also Cydectin. They did emphasize as above to use one class of wormer until it is no longer effective before switching. I have been using the ivermectin with good results so I have not tried the other 2 classes. They also said the pour on ivermectin is not effective for internal worms. I am just a lay person and just sharing, not meant to take the place of vet advice.

What kind of worms do your goats have? What you use depends on the type of worm or parasite. Pour on Ivermectin is mainly for ticks, lice, and surface parasites.
