If you're like me, there are few people around me that "get it." Having a forum like this, full of people who not only "get it", but actually have farms, even if it is a rabbit coop in the back yard, is wonderful. When something goes wrong, this is the place to come to for help, advice and support.

Glad you found the cause and it was able to be corrected. Of course, she will be sore for a while but, better than with it being out of place. Still limited movement. I assume you take her for a short, slow, leadline walk as part of the healing. The stride will help keep things working...and her mentally calmer with not just total confinement.

Keep us posted on her, please.

Rescues are difficult for so many reasons but, strangers to animals often think the "issues" were caused by you when you are really trying to heal, prevent, & reverse other's having caused. Or they don't know the problems and body conditions that happen with elder animals. Then, those strangers have a negative impression -- sometimes calling authorities. This is when a GOOD, knowing vet is such a benefit for you....they can support you if need be. BTDT. Kudos for your hard work.

. . . or people who wouldn't know the word "founder" if it came up and bit them call the authorities because you have 3 FAT minis in a dry lot and they are clearly being starved to death . . . :smack

*sigh* I guess we should be glad that these ignorant people mean well, but they really ought to say something to the owner rather than rushing to judgement. It can cause a totally unnecessary amount of drama and stress, and leave a really bad taste in the mouth of the person who not only has the animal's best interest at heart, but is right there, living "in the trenches" with it. Dealing with rescues is tough enough, without getting grief about it.

So glad the mare is mending!:)

Thank you all. We have a "dry" pasture but we regulate with hay. Ease into "grain". Every horse has their meals blended to their individual needs. The mini is on a strict diet bc they can founder so easy. People just think "all horses just need unlimited grass". Sully proves partially that it's not true. Yes we were making progress, but yes there was so much damage to his body from starvation, a use and neglect that he went through what he did. But he knew love and we didn't give up on him. There is a point when you have to make a decision for the sake of the horse. What is humane for your animal. Like us, no two are exactly the same. He will never be forgotten. Yall mean so much to me. The support you all give is amazing.
Rose is definitely sore. Poor girl. I love her so much. She is so strong. Not just physically. She has an inner quite strength that is a characteristic you dont come accross always. She is very much the matriarch of our herd.

Rose broke her leg yesterday. the swelling had gone down in her leg but she still was hobbling from the hip. with all the rain, everything is a muddy mess. she slipped and landed on the leg just right and it came through in two places. i am so heartbroken this morning. i knew it would hurt, but this much....? i know its what is right for her, but i feel like im in a fog this morning. i feel numb. i apologize ahead of time if im not on much for a few days.
