i have 21 8 week old bunnies in a coop. today we noticed one had a gash under the eye. someone has said that i need to separate boys and girls but i plan on butchering as soon as they get big enough. i know that same gender rabbits fight. what sould i do? they've all been together since about 4 or 5 weeks old with no trouble.

I've never heard of 8 week-olds beating eachother up like that!
Did you see the fight happen? It almost looks like an injury from a sharp object rather than a bite...
It would be hard to separate 21 kits unless you have the extra cages.
You could try separating the males and females. It might help but I don't know that for sure.

That looks really bad...it's a deep wound. Any chance you can butcher this one sooner than the others?
A wound like that would require stitches or staples to heal. You could try suturing it if you want to...or skip all the hard work and butcher it now :idunno

With a cage that big there shouldn't be any issues...I think it was something else. And usually in a fight the wounds will be on the back, sides and top of the head..but under the eye seems like a really hard place for another rabbit to bite or scratch!

That cut looks nasty, but it will probably heal up fine - I've certainly seen worse. No need for stitches. I agree that it's an unusual place for a wound from fighting, particularly if it's the only mark on the rabbit - are there any nails or pieces of wire the rabbit could have run into?
