I own a bald-faced Palomino who is generally very healthy. But during the summer his nose gets scabs on it. This year it didn’t show up until late, like a week or two ago. Is this from sunburn or is there something wrong? And how do I fix it? I can post pictures if I need to

Most likely sunburn, from your description. I have a couple of blaze-faced horses who have had the same problem. You can put sunscreen on the affected area every day. Another option might be a fly bonnet with a nose flap. Since my horses now live where they have roofed shelters where they can get out of the sun if they want, it has been years since either of them have had sunburned noses.

It sounds like sunburn. I have a 30 year old cremello gelding, Joe. That's his eye in my avatar nd that blue eye is the only pigment he has. he has pink skin and not even one dark hair on him. Totally white. He is smart enough to seek shade when it gets hot and has never had a sunburn.

Thank you for your input guys. Is there any type of sunscreen that is formulated for horses/animals or would just children’s sunscreen work?

I would think that childrens sunscreen would work. can you put him up during the day and let him out at night?

I dont have any way to keep him inside in the daytime... I’ll try getting a bottle of sunscreen to use specifically for him
