AMEN TO THAT.... AI is going to be more of a disaster than people realize... because it can and will be used against "the masses" and it cannot grow the food we eat. Automation does and will continue to make some farming jobs easier, or faster, but when it comes down to it, NOTHING will replace Mother Nature for nourishing our bodies...not "fake lab grown stuff"...
Fake grown lab stuff "FGLS" actually uses way more energy to manufacture, and creates much more waste than conventional food production.

AI -- yeah - I've been saying all along that it is going to be our worst nightmare yet. There will end up being only one way to do something. No innovation, intuition etc that is part of the human mind. Geeze- I even remember movies ancient movies -- well 60's? 70's? where machines took over the earth. Seriously we are headed that direction on a very slippery slope.

Supposedly there is a theory/cult religion/drug induced direction of thinking subscribed to by crazy tech giant billionaires that AI will take over and bring about an apocalypse, enslave or kill us all, blah, blah, blah. They don't want the masses. They want your money, and they want machines that make them even more money and make it so they don't need anyone...IDK to what end. Tech billionaire world war, I guess. The whole thing is craziness. Disturbing craziness. Kind of makes the recent change in treatment of the software engineers at DH's company make sense. They want that human element out of there even if the craziness is toned down.

@murphysranch ,Thanks, me too. And that is EXACTLY what happens almost every, if not every time. Right now the software engineers and managers aren't allowed to admit it or they could be considered "not relevant" and go on the chopping block. I just wish we could skip to the part they are allowed to publicly decide what it is and isn't good for.

I'm kind of envious of your daughter if they were able to publicly fix it instead of sneak the fix. DH discovered yesterday that a large part of why he was tied up for those two months is because they did a lot of foundational work they mostly didn't understand very, very, very likely with AI and now he's going to spend several days to a week just unfudging up the groundwork and straightening things out before he can make any progress from there, assuming he doesn't have to spend even more time correcting things from the bottom up so it actually works at all.

Him sticking with this company for the high salary...I have thoughts, frustrated thoughts from my leaky shoebox on the ag reserve.

As far as farm life goes, today the la-nubians and the one mini were making so little that I was able to downsize our milking stuff to the bucket and tote that fit in the dishwasher, so no more hand washing of milk stuff for me this month and half of. These two la-nubes do not have much of as much of a FF will to milk despite their size and pedigree-one is milkier than the other, but it's not the classier looking one-but I'm going to make the best of it.

Snowed maybe an inch today-really more of a dusting. We apparently don't believe in pre treating or treating roads here this year and the county School board was butt hurt from the criticism stemming from a day last week they late started unnecessarily so as a result the area was littered with car accidents (md road rage, speeding, and tail gating doesn't work on icy roads) and the school busses did a lot of getting stuck, being late, and hitting things and each other. But one son's bus driver is our neighbor and she's been driving the bus for decades and is steady and confident behind the wheel, the other son's was good too, so at least they made it back okay. It was probably a very expensive day for the district. Over paid, out of touch, career politician school board made the wrong decision and then stuck to it, refusing to cancel after school activities despite another winter weather advisory this evening and tonight. Hopefully we vote better next time.

But everything is okay at the farm.
I discovered an orchard grass producer across the street. They're working right now with the snow, but I'm getting on that.

There is no snow equipment here, so Schools are quick to close for the first snowflake that hits the ground. Then the Redneck Road Warriors hit the roads to play High Speed Suicidal Road Rage and the body shops do a large business afterwards. I just stay home.

Agreed.

I'm a happily transplanted Yankee, been in the Carolinas for almost 40 years. I can drive in snow, but since we rarely get snow, there's almost zero snow equipment. Most people have little experience driving in icy conditions, so I stay home.

Yeah, the salters are the landscapers in the area contracted out to work. The county is too crazy and too cheap to salt until liability is already on the ground and the school board is too out of touch and thick skulled to cancel. Today they sent out a gaslightingy email telling is that our feelings and experiences were invalid and things happened but things happen every day so they were still right and we should just get over it.
Time to pop some popcorn and watch what the other more hot headed actual Maryland parents do.

It totally boils down to $$. I'm guessing all public schools are the same, in that they get PAID / student that attends every single day. So cancel school and they loose $$. They care more about their per diem than the students.

Other than pride or butt hurt im not sure why they did what they did. Its not the pay. Teachers get paid (not laid, thank you dirty minded autocorrect) on up to 4 snow days in this county and we haven't had any. Many teachers could not make it to school at all and were among the angry voices. County drama.
