ok thanks I moved them at the 48 hour mark. The sample came back negative for any worms but it's the kind of thing I want to know best how to deal with regardless of current egg counts!
Awesome I can't wait to read that. Thanks. I got a message from the vet today saying no parasites in the sheep droppings. I moved them onto a rested patch after 48 hours and then moved them again today. I'm thinking smaller paddocks and move them way more frequently than last year. With a 6...
I should wean ours around then too for the girls sake..
I bought a microscope and slides with the idea of doing that myself but ended up bringing samples to the vet last year. This year the price has doubled to $60 per sample!
I did just like you said and went out as they were waking up...
Hello,
We sheared our sheep this weekend and were horrified to realize how skinny they were under all that wool! Two of our ewes are nursing twins and they are the thinnest. Our girl nursing one is probably slightly bigger. Our ram is thin but not like the girls. We have been giving them...
Thanks. Any credit is probably due to how nice the lumber was. It was really cool working with 2x4s that were actually 2"x4". We did milk them last spring and are hoping to again. Last year I just tied their halters to our porch and it was hard on my back to say the least! Hopefully we have...
Ours are really small. They aren't breeds known for making loads of milk. Probably could do it by hand if you were determined but the pump only takes a few minutes per side. We are going to check out what the Amish neighbors charge for wood...might be a good deal! Just winging it for ours too.
Ok I've got my iodine and small cups ready to go. We will try the no clip dip this year :) We built hoop houses and I sewed canvas tops and we put thick plastic on the ends. The sheep's house is the one on the right. It doesn't have a front on it because they haven't seemed to need it. They...
We milked them with the hand pump from premier1 with decent success last year. We must have found the same teat wash recipe because it was castle soap and essential oils. Reminds me I need to mix up some more. The whole gang drank the milk and we were all fine. It is really good milk. We...
We had two first time ewe mom's last spring who handled the births like old pros. One was eating hay one minute then next thing I knew she had a little one she was licking clean. The other girl I noticed had started laying down and pushing so I was able to watch the whole process. Really...
When you say remaining cord are you trimming it then dipping it or just dipping the whole thing? I'm going to gather a small bottle and iodine so I'm ready.
The necropsy for the lamb we lost last year showed a well walled off abscess that had burst but the vet said it was a really strange...
They are wool sheep who we shear in the spring. Luckily their shelters have dry floors even with all the flooding we had from snow melt. I put down a ton of mulch hay and straw where there was mud and puddles in their paddock
How do you all handle your lamb's umbilical cords? Last year I trimmed them and put on a clip (similar to ones babies get in the hospital) then dipped them in iodine. The clips were difficult to use and I slipped with one of the ram lambs who developed an abscess under his belly button. He...
