Ok everyone I need some help.......This will be my first winter with all of my animals.
I have 2 quarter horses (one as you know is really underweight)
2 miniature donkeys
1 miniature horse
I need a run down of how much hay, grain etc they need on a daily basis. I have read and read and...
Well I believe I am noticing a slight change in my horse. He is starting to look better. Nothing drastic, but any change is good with me. I did notice this weekend that his skin is awful. when you run your hand over his back and and back end it is full of bumps. I used the curry comb and...
I am feeding grass hay right now. I do have alfalfa bales as well, so I thought about adding a little of that in too. He eats very well. He eats all of the hay we put out for him as well as all of his grain. He doesn't seem to have a problem as far as digestion is concerned. I wormed right...
Yes I feel like its good too that I took him in. Poor baby. I am just so worried that I won't know the right things to do. I don't want to do anything to make it worse for him. I am sure with proper feeding schedule he will be back in good shape soon! Fingers crossed!
This horse is pretty thin. I am going to try to post a picture with this. Its so hard to see him looking like that. I know its a long process. Hopefully by the spring he will be looking better. How much hay do you suggest I feed him a day? Should I mix in some alfalfa as well?
Thank you all for your replies. We do have Happy at home with us now. He is quite underweight. He is approx 15 hh and around 825 lbs right now. I have been giving him hay and sweet feed morning and night. I know someone mentioned to stay away from sweet feed though. I can tell he has some...
We have been given the opportunity to rescue a 12 yr old QH gelding. He is quite underweight. His current owners have had him for around 6 months and say that he has put on a considerable amount of weight in the time they have had him. He did have worms and was treated for those. The current...
I am looking at a Belgian/Halflinger cross gelding. He is 9 yrs old and great temperment. Anyone who has had draft horses if you could give me your advice. I am quite new to horses. I would like to ride him. Are they good for riding?
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Its so hard to go out to that pasture.....it looks so empty :( The animal control officer said they do look into these cases and hopefully the owner can be held liable. It was just such a devastating day all the way around. Its hard when you...
I don't understand either. On one hand I am feeling horrible about my animals but then you have to feel sorry for those dogs. They were starving. Just left alone to fend for themselves. I think the person who moved out should be liable. I wonder if they investigate that at all?
We woke up to a horrible tragedy on our farm. My fiance went out to feed animals (I had already left for work). When he got to the pasture he noticed there were 4 dogs in the pasture. They took off when they saw him. All 5 of our goats had been killed. They had also been in the chicken coop...
You know.....I really don't know if he can be or not. I am pretty new to all of this too, I just figured once they reached a certain age it was too late. It may be something we look into in the future though. Glad you brought the question up, I was just always under the impression it had to...
I would take both! My miniature jack and jenny are inseparable. If I take one out of the pasture, the other will cry and pace until his friend is back. My donkeys are in a pasture with 5 goats, 4 ducks and ocassionally a dog or two and have never been aggressive toward any of them.
I think...
