@Bruce, I think someone told me that the 3 bladed kind have a govenor or some sort. The old type used to have something that would disengage the tail so that the windmill part could still spin, but that the tail being disengaged, it wouldn't want to face into the wind so would not really spin...

Sunday night. Had a decent day. DS texted and we went and got the obnoxious cow.... she was back in the yard this morning.... she is due to calve soon. She is a bought cow so maybe that is why they sold her. We have had her for at least one calf though so not a "newcomer". Brought 5 more...

    Ready or Not....... Shouldvknwnbetter- Fall

Sorry to hear about the first eye surgery not holding and hoping that the second time around will work. Have you gotten any snow yet? Saw a picture that one of my dairy farmers had, that they were picking corn in the first snow of the year.... Somewhere up north or out in the midwest. BRRRR...

One of my dairy farmers had a neighbor get a black bear the other day....bow season is in.... 250 lbs so good sized. I like wildlife in general, but there are just too many now that are too close to the general population of people.... and we keep encroaching on their habitat.... and they are...

    Older highland cattle heifer

Glad to know that she is gaining weight and looking better. Nothing wrong with asking for some advice if you are not sure. Some of us have been doing this awhile and seen alot of things. Sometimes I get it wrong. Stick around, we like to have all the new friends we can.

Official BYH Poll: What Animals Do You Have In Your Backyard Herd?

Liked the Royal Palms More active but not aggressive behavior. Set and hatched and raised their own poults. Not quite as big as some of the other breeds. I only have some experience with the Bourbon Reds also, and they too were pretty good at setting and raising their own. Only reason I got...

THAT'S PERFECT.... He will be content to have company, there won't be any issues with the heifer getting bred too young... That's perfect. None of us wanted you to get into deep problems with a young bull and a young heifer coming into heat too soon. Running them all together should be just...

That is what I have been told.... that there are "pre-surgery" exercises that are suggested for all who do knee surgery. I will try to get some more info on that too.... but using this "pedaler" machine that I had put away, has made me realize that they are weaker than I realized. Maybe it...

Official BYH Poll: What Animals Do You Have In Your Backyard Herd?

    October Crazy-Hip Replacement

Unfortunately, I have not found a dr that I "click" with like I did with the ankle dr. The dr that did the knees for my PT's mom is in Maryland and he (pt) is very pleased with her progress. It is only 2-3 hours away so very well within range. I am thinking I am going to call and make an appt...

Okay, it is sunny but chilly... was 36 at the old house this morning....warming up some but still very cool. Going to continue to get warmer as the week goes on. DS was cutting more hay this morning. Finishing up the rest of that orchard grass field then cutting the other 3 mixed grass...

Another thing.... yes, they can jump fences.... but will often go through/over them which then tears up wire/fence posts... and risks injury to the animal. When he decides he is bored at home.... he is going to go gallivanting.... I just moved a 10 yr old very calm quiet bull to a neighbors to...

WELLLLLLLL, I was not expecting @Crealcritter to go so "HOG WILD" right off the bat when he mentioned getting a cow and calf from the neighbor.... OKAY everything @Baymule said is true. If you had asked/mentioned getting a bull I would have said ABSOLUTELY NOT at this time. It is TOO TRUE...
