    Best LGD breed/mix

I have a Maremma Pyrenees cross and a Pyrenees. The Maremma has been gentler with the livestock, easier to train and less likely to roam. However, a good breeder is just as important as breed, like Ridgetop said. I got my Maremma from a reputable breeder that does health testing, trains the...

They have a manual one for collecting colostrum that might come in handy for stubborn sheep. 😁

Got my first milk machine! 😃 I feel like a kid with a new toy. I may be young but my hands were getting tired milking 4 goats twice a day 7 days a week. This thing is certainly going to help my workload. Bonus: it's a special bottle milker, no cleaning and sanitizing lines every time! Milk goes...

Yes, I think he'll sell very easily! Some of my skittish ewes do calm down after being bred a couple times. It will help that her mom is friendly so she'll have that example. That's exactly what he and his sister look like! Their mom had plenty of ink. 😁

Mocha's ram lamb is turning out so sweet!! We love him already. That's not good since he's not staying. 😂 Unfortunately this is about as close as his sister will let me get to her.

    Lambs losing hair around eyes

Thanks! I'll get some vaseline on them. It is pretty much only on the top eyelid, but one did seem to have a little hair loss on the back of her ears, and another had some bumps around his mouth. There are about 4-5 total with this issue. What kind of wormer would you give?

    Lambs losing hair around eyes

I have a few lambs between 2-4 weeks old who are losing hair around their eyes. No signs of infection or goopiness in the eye itself. No other hair loss or flaky skin on the rest of the body that I can see. Could it be zinc deficiency? Mites? I thought about putting Nustock but don't want to...

    Ram Lamb

You could also use a burdizzo type castration tool. I like that better than banding. I usually do mine around 10-12 weeks.

Yes! We are not going to have empty freezers this fall and winter, that's for sure. We may even try to sell some lamb shares. Thank you!

Goat update! Everyone is doing pretty well, bottle babies are growing and always hungry. They are drinking so much milk! 😳 I want to get rid of three of them, but unfortunately they all have mites right now. I'm treating with injectable ivermectin, Nustock and hot lime sulphur dip. It's been...

    Blessedfarmgirl's 2025 lambing/kidding journal

I had a very busy weekend with a bunch of baking for my booth at our local poultry trades day, plus one of my goats started to have mastitis symptoms all while I'm dealing with mites in the entire goat herd. Naturally, my last three pregnant sheep decided my life was not chaotic enough and...

And here's what last night looked like for us! Lucy (Lulu) everyone's favorite and the sweetest ewe ever had ram/ewe twins. Of course she had an audience, no one wanted to miss her birth! Something pretty special happened as well. My 11 year old sister has watched me pull many lambs and goats...

Ewe rejecting one of her lambs

Exactly! Fun bonus right now: the ewe, with no prior training whatsoever, has been standing still untied in the pasture with a little grain to eat and letting me milk her. 🤯 I wish my goats were that good. I'm getting about 1.5 cups with the ram lamb on her, which is pretty good for a sheep I'd...

Yes!! When I saw that pic later I went WOW. If he was registerable I'd be tempted to keep him. 😂 Daphne is still unfolding, plus it's cold. I'm going to get more pics tomorrow in the sunshine with everyone on fresh pasture!

Ewe rejecting one of her lambs

I know the goat milk is best, but I might be adding in cow milk in a few weeks to help cut the cost. She will eat way more than my mini kids. I am selling the goat milk to a few families via herd share and I can get about $13 a gallon for it. Cow only costs 3-4 bucks. So as she grows and needs...
