Larsen Poultry Ranch - homesteading journey

Thanks! It was a lot of work, but so worth it. We bid on a HUD repo doublewide with 8 acres and moved from a 2500 square foot brick home. LOL I was trying to make it a little less mobile home-ish.

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your friend. You can relax and enjoy yourself. Taking stuff a little at a time is a much better way to move. Get help with the big stuff and do as much as you can. Much easier to move stuff, put it up and not have boxes stacked to the ceiling.

I can envision your lush green pastures. Our winter grasses are barely up, we have had a long dry spell, but got a hard rain last night. The storm should be over you now. It knocked out power for 15,000 people across east Texas. Hope it makes the fescue, rye grass and clovers grow! Can't wait...

Larsen Poultry Ranch - homesteading journey

I know exactly where you are! When we bought our Redneck Mansion Doublewide, I ripped out all the carpet and laid unfinished white knotty pine, sanded, whitewashed and finished it, throughout the whole house. Had never done floors before...... :th You will be so proud when the floors are done...

    Coffee anyone ?

You are out of time! LOL Or I would say to polyurethane the slats. But-----:jumpy Spray the slats with vinegar, put under a fan to help dry them off. Maybe do one, see how long it takes for the smell to go away, may have to dilute the vinegar.

    Too early to kid?

I have bred ewes at 8 months, prefer to wait until 10-ish months old, just to give that time to mature. I don't think you have committed mortal sin, just watch carefully when her time comes to give birth. The best thing I can tell you to do is READ. There is tons of information in the forums...

    Fermenting feed...

I haven't done all the math on my Cornish, or anything else this year. All the receipts are thrown into the drop front secretary desk. I shudder every time I open it to stuff more in there.:lol: Cornish Cross eat a LOT, they poop a LOT, they grow fast and make a LOT of meat. They are a...

    rachels.haven's Journal

My tomato vines shot up to 10 to 12' feet tall, then fell over. I'd have to hang them outside from a tree......that would sorta kinda halfway maybe-so defeat the purpose. Not to mention that I plant them close, so they are all interwoven together. Just heard on the news that we will probably get...

    Too early to kid?

I have sheep, not goats. I have to separate the ram lambs at 2 months old because the frisky little devils will breed at only 2 months old. I have a set of twins right now and the ram lamb was humping his sister and whatever ewe's back leg he could at only a week old! I understand your...

    Coffee anyone ?

Thanks for the coffee PA, it sure is good this morning. A storm came through last night, knocked out power to 15,000 people across east Texas. Haven't gone out to check the rain gauge yet, we sure needed the rain. News is predicting a frost Monday night. Guess I'll pick the green tomatoes on...

    rachels.haven's Journal

I get it on the tomato vines, I break out something terrible. Tomato rash itches and lasts for WEEKS. So that must be why I planted a 32' double row and a 16' double row. I have to wear a denim long sleeved shirt and gloves to go pick tomatoes. We haven't had a hard frost yet and the vines...
