This was a 2 year old Alpine, first timer. She started labor about 6:00 pm. About an hour later, she had a big bubble come out, about the size of a basketball, nothing was visible in the bubble. The bubble broke and only fluid came out. What the heck?! No sign of a baby for about two hours...
Thanks for the reply. Just checked her and she' s got more mucus coming out & getting restless. Gonna be a long night. Better make some coffee and gather all the heat lamps I can find.
How common is kidding at night? I've had two prior kiddings and both have been daytime. I have a doe whose ligs have been gone since at least 8:00 this morning. I checked her the night before and could still fell them. This morning - gone. I just got home from work and it looks like her mucus...
Didn't think you meant anything rough. You have me thinking that if done correctly, maybe it could help correct some behavior. I will run it by some of my experienced pack goat buddies. Unfortunatley, when I have seen people grab goats horns, they just walk up to a goat minding it's own...
Thaks for your insight. I believe you about it not hurting them, but not sure if I'd risk putting them in their place by their horns. It is a cardinal sin in the world of pack goats where they need to be very sociable and people friendly.
Interesting to hear your experience, which is probably much more vast than mine. However, I do know a handfull of others with goats that have problems with them using their horns against people and they all had played with their goats by their horns. I never did allow anyone to touch my goats...
Ok, this is driving me nuts! Everyone who is saying that they use the horns for "Handles." A human should NEVER grab a goat by it's horns. It teaches the goats that it is OK to interact with humans with it's horns and that is a BAD THING. This is why goats with horns get a bad rep. I tell...
Right, meant to say anti-toxin. I live in Pagosa Springs, CO. The only thing here the feed store normally keeps is the Penn. The Coop in Durango (60 Miles away) had the vaccine, but not the anti-toxin. Murdocks in Salida about 150 miles from me) or Alamosa (almost 100 miles) might have most of...
Ok then, I get it. The vaccines are not that much but we dont have any place within 150 miles that sells them so I have to pay for the second day shipping. But it sound like that's what I need to do, not worth the risk for sure. Thanks!
I bought a little fridge to put my meds and vaccines in and it turned out that my little fridge was a little freezer. I since bought a new little fridge that wont freeze everything but I was wondering if my vaccines and meds are still good after being frozen. I had Pennecilin, Tetnus Toxoid, C&D...
Is there an age limit to Burdizzo a buckling? I am planning on getting some Banamine from the vet to make it a little easier on them. Would like to hear from others that Burdizzo'd older bucks. I have three boys, but might hold off on one to make sure my does all get bred.
Thanks for the info. He would only be breeding last years does, not any his age. I sold his sister & mom. He would be in the heard with two wethers his age, the two one year old does & one 4 year old doe, our milk doe.
I have an 8 week old Alpine buckling that is already outgrown other kids born a month earlier. I want to eventually wether him & use him as a pack goat, I think he will be a good size boy. I would like to breed him once to my does to hopefully get some more larger future pack goats. Is there...
I ended up pounding in three rods at about a 30 degree angle where I thought I had the most soil. I've got probably four to five acres fenced & using a 50 mile Parmak charger, I'm getting about 4500 volts through the fence. I might end up running a few ground wires inbetween some of the other...
I have been working on putting up t-posts for a 4 wire electric fence to contain goats & my LGD. I am fencing about 5 acres, in an "L" shape. One side has very shallow topsoil, with shale about a foot or slightly less down, It's been a real bugger pounding t=posts through the shale. The other...
Milk Production had now bounced back up to right at or a liitle more than 2 quarts per milking. She gets free choice hay grass & alfalfa, free choice minerals. A few hours pasture in am & then again in pm. She gets as much as she wants mixture of 2 pts whole oats, 1 pt alfalfa pellets, 1 part...
Six days ago I bought a milking goat who was producing just over half a gallon per milking (twice a day, over 1 gallon per day total) . She kidded in February. She is real skinny, but came back clean on a fecal float I took to the vet just yesterday. Since the first day I have had her, her milk...
Probably a dumb question, but I cannot find the answer. I have been reading about feeding wethers and keeping seeing to feed them "AC". What is it! I am raising a few wethers for pack goats. Right not they just get hay, pasture & loose minerals. The are only about 2 1/2 months old. I just...
