Thank you. I wasn't planning on giving bottle yet but got it given we are going into holiday weekend. I mentioned to my daughter I was going to put coat on baby but didn't want to add to ewe rejecting her but at this point I will. It's 30s at night and lamb was resting in straw but now laying...
She was a great mother last year but totally understand given situation this year. Still trying. Been going out there every. 3-4 hours but am starting to get tired. It's hard to wrangle mom at 3am. Bought new lamb formula just in case. Still same here. Lamb more active but worried will getcold...
Morning update. Lamb is more active and still wanting to be with ewe of course but she continues to act the same, not wanting to be around lamb. Lamb does have a slight injury to ear tip and is scratching at it so letting me know she was also affected by this. Lamb is doing slight hops around...
Been watching her and Everytime baby comes near ewe to snuggle she pushes her away :( still forcing nursing. Maybe something is wrong with baby and she is rejecting?
Oh no the other dogs cannot get with sheep or other dog. Precious male lgd was the one who had issues with pets. Currently we only have the one LGD and she is solely with sheep.
Because of prev instances with our dogs and prev lgd, pets are kept completely seperate
You may be correct on the attack interpretation. The only time the dog is very any type of aggressive is with food so if she was eating in lamb I could see her biting ewe. Also though I said this dog eats all rodents and such but actually never eats them just kills and will chew on old cow...
I have some pallets I could use but she keeps jumping up on them and even got her hoof stuck. I'll try and think of some creative things today. She just wants to get with rest of ewes.
I don't think I have the means or equipment to make a smaller area that she can't get out of. I had them in something smaller but she is trying to jump on and over things so this was the best I could do.... 😞
I should elaborate she doesn't really play but chases them. I first started noticing it when our ram was out there and trying to get her away from ewes but it became more of a game trying to get him and vice versa. No doubt she does this when I'm not there but I really have been working with her...
Update.
Lamb nursed with my assistance every 4 hours. Was walking around but ewe is still not interested at all. Overnight did not see.lamb up much. There were times she would tolerate it more than others but still must be held for lamb to nurse, and is still kicking. She stands and did some...
Just check baby cam and she is laying down. And the dog although locked in backyard isn't far so she prob i still nervous. I feel so bad for her
But she has been getting so much love and some animals crackers when we helped her nurse .....What a day!! It took bravery to tell my husband and ask...
She only had to go once so far and it was a task but with a harness. Def need to work on it. I do correct her from chasing and playing with them when I am there...she tends to get so excited....but correct needs to be worked on
Warning graphic. This is absolutely wonderful information. I think I will do the placenta trick next lambs.
So she is always great with sheep. She will play and will chase them sometimes. I have seen her be food aggressive so I always feed her separate and am present when feeding sheep anything...
To add on we were able to warm compress and remove some milk, although very little she tolerated it very well did not seem painful. We then got the Lamb on her and she nursed well but Mom was giving a little bit of kick during it. She smelt baby a little bit when done.
Then it goes to the pasture. So not certain how I would keep dog next to them without being with them. For now she is in the backyard alone. She was raised with lambs but never around lambing till this year because we got electric fencing around the perimeter so everyone has been out there...
