We are having all kinds of trouble getting our does bred. We've bred all 8 does twice over the past 9 weeks and no babies. We have both younger and older does/bucks and always put the does in with both buck (one day each on consecutive days). It's been cold here the past few days, but before...
I did some checking and 1/2 & 1/2 is half cream and half milk. I think I am going to try using 2 1/2 cups of cream and 1 1/2 cups of fresh goat milk and see how that works. It should be the same ratio as the recipe calls for.
I am wanting to make homemade ice cream using cream from our Jersey. The recipe I have always used calls for 3 cups of half & half and 1 cup of heavy cream. I have fresh cream that I separated. What is the difference between half and half and heavy cream? If I used 4 cups of cream, how is...
Here is one that I found that looks good on paper:
50% field peas
16% corn
16% oats
16%barley
All of them ground
I calculated it at around 18% protein.
Any thoughts? concerns?
We eliminated all soy from our animals diet a few years ago due to the fact that they are a GMO crop. Also, I don't think soy is by any means a natural food for any animal. The fact that you have to roast them before feeding tells me it isn't something that animals should be consuming. I have...
I have 6 young hogs I am feeding out right now. I have a nice 12 hole feeder for feeding them their grain feed, but I am wanting to find/build something which I can use to feed them scraps, extra goat milk, and fodder. Anybody have something they use or an idea?
Thanks.
We ferment it for 24-36 hours, depending on the temp in the kitchen. We drink it both straight and smoothies. I do mine different than most. After fermenting, I put it in the fridge for 12 hours before straining and drinking. It make it very tart and thicker. I am amazed the girls will...
Raw here too. We believe pasteurization kills all the good stuff along with the bad.
We make a half gallon of Kefir everyday and it is always gone. Wife and kids aged 7, 3, and 2 all drink it. Kefir is soooooo good for the gut.
What do you all think about this recipe for a milk stand ration?
9% Corn
25% Distiller's Grain
25% Yellow Peas
25% Oats
7% BOSS
9% Beet Pulp
Any guess on the % protein?
Would you crack the peas and corn or feed all whole?
Thanks.
Purebred Large Blacks sell for $75-$125 around here. I know it's not a Tamworth, but they are a heritage breed as well.
I have been looking everywhere for Tamworths around me, but haven't been able to find any. They are the breed that I really want.
My goats were a little reluctant at first, but now they fight over it. Just keep offering and if they don't eat it that day, give to the chickens the next day. My chickens devour it. It's funny to see 30 hens fighting over it, fodder flying everywhere, LOL.
She is an Oberhasli that weighs about 75 pounds. I eased her into it a little at a time, and she's now getting 2-3 pounds per day.
No, they still need some roughage. I've been feeding her a cheap grass hay mix ($60/ton). She eats no more than 5 pounds a day of this. I also give about a pound...
Barley only right now. I am looking for a source for some good wheat to use for the chickens. I just got a bag of Canadian Peas and BOSS. I am going to top dress the barley with a mixture of this staring tomorrow.
I've been feeding my goats and chickens fodder for about 3 weeks now. They both love it and gobble every bit of it up very quickly. I had one goat that I was milking pre fodder. Since feeding fodder, her milk production has increased and her kids are growing faster and looking better than any...
If I were to get a couple of pigs that were just weaned, about how much feed would I expect them to eat if I raised them up to 250-275 pounds. I'm not sure which breed/cross I am going to get, just wanting a ballpark number for projecting costs.
Yes, he is full blooded and came from working lines. His mother was born right out on the pasture from a pair of working sheep LGDs, and his dad has never had any issues with the goats or chickens on our farm.
