My 17 year old daughter has decided that she wants to concentrate of different areas of 4H before she is too old. She showed our Merino Ewe and our miniature horses this year and found there to be a whole lot less drama in the barns and nicer people. So, the only Nubian doe we have left is the...
We are torn between wethering Snow's first buckling or not. He is looking real nice, and quite the handsome/flashy boy. We won't be keeping him, unless we wether him, but we've been told by the person that de-horned him that he is a real nice looking guy and looks like he would make a very...
This is a favorite pic of my daughter and our new doe kid, Eve. She's 12 days old in the picture and is a bottle baby. Eve doesn't realize she is a goat and just loves us all!
We had a single doe kid born on the 19th. Mom is having major problems with one side of her udder and we have taken Eve in and are bottle feeding her. We had originally left Eve in with mom the first night, went out the next morning very early, and Eve was very lethargic and seemed extremely...
She is still having an awful time with that one side of her udder. I'm going to see how it looks this morning, and if I can't get anywhere with it, we are taking her into the vets.
Snowy kidded last night, one single little doe kid. I noticed this morning that you cannot get milk out of one side of her udder. We had called our vet - he prescribed 8cc/ml of penicillin and 5cc of a steroid (called Pred.. 2X - cant remember full name). We gave her the shots, and are doing...
My husband and I watched the HBO special about Dr. Grandin. This woman is truly remarkable. Not only did she have many obstacles to overcome, she is a huge success.
Congrats!!! It is rather exciting becoming a homeowner. The only sucky part is the taxes and repairs. We just bought new cabinets and flooring for our house that we have owned for 1 1/2 years.
We discovered a few weeks ago that my daughter couldn't do long division without a calculator!!! She gets very good grades, but when they were working on building our barn & pens, she couldn't do the math without a calculator! We took her phone/calculator away and showed her how to do it the...
My experience with my two kids (16 & 15) is that the schools are no longer "teaching" subjects. They are strictly teaching for the "fill in the bubble", multiple choice tests that help with funding.
I feel bad for the teachers and the students. These poor kids are headed for a disaster once...

I suggest go get your goats too. The woman we bred our does to kept the girls for about a month. I'd be a bit leery of a person that wanted to keep the goats for the full duration. They are your property, go get them.
Since it snowed, we can't get the girls out of the barn at all. We tried when we had a light dusting, but they just wouldn't budge. I did notice some large animal prints (not sure if they were a dog or coyote) near the entrance of the barn door. Could this be frightening them or do they just...
Please help in our special Christmas quest for a special little girl. The story starts with her birth. She and her two sisters were orphaned as newborns. Unfortunately, only she and one sister survived. Since birth, Kippy has sought the comfort from a certain snowman that Iams Dog Food has...
Very pretty babies. Just one question - to make a percentage, the papa goat and the momma goat must have to be mixed with something else right? Is there a way to get back up to a 100% breed and would you would be able to register it?
Just wondering how this works. I know that in dogs, if...
Fingers crossed for all girls and quads!!!! We've been teasing Becky that her goat (Snowy) is going to have 8 babies, but they will all be boys. My goat (Daisy) will have 3 beautiful little girls ;) .
I think the other reason we did separate stalls is because one goat is my daughter's (Snowy) and we are making it her responsibility. We don't have a milk stand yet, hubby has to work on that.
We feed hay, as well as a dairy feed that our feed store mixes up. It is not a "sweet feed", but a...
We had to separate them because Snowy eats ALL the food and Daisy gets left with nothing. Snowy also knocks the buckets off and spills food. Since both girls were bred in October, we want to make sure Daisy gets equal opportunity food time
We've been lucky they haven't been jumping over, they...
We made a few modifications today in the barn. Most of our friends (or my sister) have to use flash lights in their barns, especially in the stall area so we installed 2 florescent lights in their stalls. It really makes the stalls nice and bright. Next, we are installing 2 cabinets for the...
