We had wonderful, crazy busy christmas. Christmas eve our pregnant dog started acting funny, restless, clearly uncomfortable. Me and her were up all night and she gave us 7 healthy puppies. 6 boys, 1 girl. She is young, only about 18 months old so i was concerned about how she would take to...

We raised a pig this last summer but i came to my senses about the kunes lol. Im definitely going to put my pig dreams on hold. Ive got alot on my plate right now, and with the days being so short it makes it hard to get it all done after work. The kids are also starting their 4H turkeys in...

The garden is done, goats broke in and ate the tops of my carrots down to the dirt, and my broccoli. Grrr. Good thing they are cute. The strawberries have gone dormant. My peas are the only things chugging along and the frost has them looking pretty bad. Carrots were small but tasty and i love...

We have a black locust tree. has the pretties blooms, pink, HUGE! The bees love them. We had a late freeze this year and killed the blooms, i was so bummed. They are thorny, and the little suckers that grow at the bottom become huge thorny mess if you dont keep them trimmed back.

Not that I know of. I think just the coastal live oak is protected in California. But it could vary by county.

Im not far from you geographically and we have live oak, white oak, and black oaks on our property. Live oak is the pokey leaf. White oak has the bigger leaves, really pretty, my favorite. The live oaks look good all year though the others drop their leaves and each year i wonder if they are...

You have such a long growing season, which sounds equally exhausting and amazing lol. Hey STA I think we will get another pig next year. tweak some things in our processes, better watering system, a more sturdy trough for feeding. We raised a Gloucestershire Old Spot pig this year because a friend had a litter and wanted some of my baby goats. The meat is :drool, but fatty...

Fall has arrived. Temps in the low 20s the last week or so and some early snow this past weekend. My experimental fall garden is doing pretty good considering the weather. The potatoes called it quits after they got pummeled with hail and snow, pulled those up and got a pretty good haul...

In the colostrum stage you wont get a whole lot, i was barely getting a cup from my mama goat twice a day, i milked another doe after her kids were weaned and was getting over 42oz a day. So the milk supply changes to meet the kids need. Milk her often even though you arent getting alot. yay for...

Sorry it was a hard delivery, i had a crash course in bottle babies this past spring and one was very tiny, she is still so petite compared to her brothers. Keep him warm, i checked temps often that first night (over 102), because they wont eat if not warm enough. Such a sweet baby. Once hes...
