I have discovered that my goaties do not like even day-old foliage. So I'd wait to cut the trees down until they are ready for them. Just my two pennies' worth.
My gals also do NOT like their routine being changed. For the past week we have been experiencing severe thunderstorms during our usual milking time. Since we haven't yet set up an inside milking station, we are controlled by the weather. I hate it, but the girls hate it more! Fortunately...
My goats have eaten all my lillies, my hibiscus, marigolds and daisies, and are presently trying to kill my plum tree. I guess the bark must be as sweet as the fruit. But since they also mow the lawn and give me lots of milk, I try very hard not to complain. But I do love those plums.
If I...
Any water I put bleach in goes into a 55 gallon drum outside. This includes a "white" load of laundry. The bleach evaporates out quickly. Within 24 hours, I have read. At any rate, if I see mosquito larvae swimming in it, I consider it bleach-free, and it goes to water the trees. Or any...
Very interesting. So maybe my chickens' worms develop an immunity to the wormer I am using to clear up my goats. But maybe my chickens don't have worms. ? They seem perfectly healthy.
EEK! This is all so complicated.
:idunno
I don't like to give too much milk to my dogs and cats, due to the goopy poo it seems to generate. But maybe a little to them and a little to the fruit trees.
Can I give it to the pullets and cockerels that aren't in the laying flock yet?
Hi y'all. I'm going to be worming my heavy milkers today with ivermectin. I hate to waste all that milk, but they are losing condition and I have to worm them now. Can I give this milk to my chickens and still eat their eggs? I'm gonna post this on BackyardChickens too, but I'd love y'all's...
My experience has been that they really need separate cages after about 3 months. In the past, I have had to keep litters together longer than I'd liked due to a lack of space. They always seemed to start territorial fighting right around then. I raise New Zealand Whites, Mini Rex, Lionhead...
I have a healthy 3 month old Saanen doeling for sale. She has been disbudded, recently dewormed, and is current on her CDT.
I am asking $100, or may consider trade for a Kinder, Nigerian Dwarf, or other SMALL dairy goat. Her mom is larger than all our Nigi's and our Kinder and can be quite a...
Our kids love old tractor tires. Put one on it's side on the ground and stand one up in the middle of it. They will play "king of the mountain" for hours, until someone rolls it off the bottom tire. I think they get a kick out of the sound their tiny hooves make on the rubber too. Sometimes...
I just told DH that one and his reply was "How do they get past the spurs?"
I guess I should have told him it was a joke. :hu
Now I've got this image of some guy actually trying to get socks on a rooster. :gig
How about Berra? If you like sports ...
"In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is". "It gets late early out there." Loves me some Yogi Berra quotes.
I prefer solid dividers around my bucks. That way when they get into pee spraying mode, the does (and neighboring bucks) don't get filthy. Some sheet tin works well and is fairly easy to clean.
Actually, because they ask, there is some wee tiny part of them that DOES know that they are missing something. Same with the rest of my family. I am delighted to be the Black Sheep of my family. (BTW - Anyone know where I can get a black sheep? Gotta have one, it'll be my farm mascot.)
I had the misfortune this week to have to process a buck I was planning on selling, and a doeling I was planning on keeping. Dang dogs. Anyway, the buck was two years old, and the doeling was three weeks old. Got more meat per live weight pounds from the doeling than the buck. Given the...
