Not sure if it is ok to post this here, but I thought I would give it a try as I am desperate to rehome our goat friends. Unfortunately we have some sad news. Apparently after having our little mini-farm for over a year, the county has decided that we are not 'zoned' for farm animals and has...
Unfortunately we have some sad news. Apparently after having our little mini-farm for over a year, the county has decided that we are not 'zoned' for farm animals and has ordered us to remove our goat family from our property. We are also in the midst of relocating out of state, so you can...
Well, unfortunately we lost the little doeling last night. Still not entirely sure what had happened. We are not sure if someone hit her, or if she wasn't getting enough from mom. Still strange that she was fine the day before, and yesterday morning was weak. We did everything that we could, or...
Temp is fine.. we have pulled her from mom this morning and been working on trying to get her better. Not getting any stronger yet. We milked mom and tried to give it to her, but half of it comes back out. She is getting a little bit, but not much. We are switching between milk and electrolytes...
Her skin goes back fairly quickly. We have been giving here electrolytes, and she drank some water on her own. We have also been syringe feeding her some milk from mama. She has urinated quite a few times and has pooped a couple times so far since we have had her inside. She is still fairly weak...
Very true :) i have been trying to figure out how much BoSe to give... I have seen everything from 1/4cc to 1cc for newborns. She is only 1 week old today, so we are nto sure. Still waiting to hear from our vet too... but she can sometimes take a little longer to get ahold of unfortunately...
Oh wow.. I didn't think they would get the same dose as the adults... isn't it 1cc per 40lbs? That is what we give the does before kidding. This little thing is so tiny... a lot smaller then her twin.
We have twin nigerian dwarf goat doelings that were born last Friday 7/12. One is happy, healthy, jumping all around and playful when we let them out this morning to be with the rest of the herd. The other one was less lively. When we checked on them again, she was just laying in the middle of...
So are the pens faster and easier than the stamps?? Can someone let me know how each one works? We are new to registered goats and have some kids that are due in June/July that we will have to tattoo, so the easiest, fastest, less stressful for them is what I am hoping for!
Thank you for the replies!! After doing some research we came up with about the same thing. We have sseveral other does in the area and none of them have the issues so was not sure if it was! We will get what we need and get it taken care of!
We just noticed that one of our does has a sore on her leg. I got a picture, but it is not the best. She does rub up against an old tractor tire that we have out in the yard. She sits her butt on it and rubs back and forth... not sure if that is causing the irritation or something else?
Yeah.. we are a little disappointed, but hopefully we can still show for 4H... going to have to have a talk with her leader about it again. We have two others that are registered with ADGA and are due to kid in a couple months, so we plan on keeping some of their babies. We are also getting...
Yeah.. this is what I am finding out. I have been emailing the ADGA for about a week now, and I thought I mentioned that they were nigerian dwarf. Sooo back to the emailing back and forth again with her. I am fairly frustrated because we were told that the ones we want to register were...
We have a vet that will do an ultrasound, but we are trying to avoid unnecessary stress if possible. I just really wanted to get other more experienced goat handlers intake on it. If she did miscarry she would be in heat right about now so we are trying to see if she is in heat - new to trying...
We are new to goats and have a few that are bred and due in June/July so were researching the registration. We have the few that are not registered so I asked a few questions. I also found this on their website:
If you don't know the sire & dam of a dairy goat, can you still regsiter it...
That would probably help huh!! :D I keep trying to do a profile but it will not let me add a location yet... so I am in Shaftsburg, MI (near Perry, Owosso, Lansing, Flint).
We acquired two nigerian dwarf goats from a person who got bottle babies but could not handle taking care of them anymore. Bottle babies just are not for everyone!! They take a lot of work, but the rewards have been so worth it. These two girls were born in February but were not registered. I...
