    Cow Limping - Breeding Injury

One of my girls is in heat and the bull has been doing his thing. They've had a few calves together and I've never had any issues post mating, but I just noticed my cow is limping on one of her back legs. I called the vet but he hasn't returned my call yet and I'm just not sure what to do.

    Lost Lambs - Help?

I've been keeping sheep for a bit over three years now. We have 18 katahdin/blackbellies on 8 acres in southwest Florida. Yesterday we had a ewe drop two babies (they were quite small) and some time last night or early this morning something took off with them. I can't find one of them, but I...

    Lambs and Rams

The ram lambs will be sold at 3 months but we are keeping the ewe lambs. It was my yearling ram that was trying to breed the 3 month old ewe lamb. The vet had told me they only cycle once a year and dont come into that cycle until at least 6 months old. Is this not the case?

    Lambs and Rams

I'm fairly new at this sheep thing. I've had my sheep for a little over a year now. Five katahdinish ewes and a blackbelly ram. Come January and February I got my first lambs. Twin ram lambs and three singleton ewe lambs. My first ewe lamb that was born was born on New Years Eve. Tonight when I...

    Headbutting

So this isn't typical behavior for all rams? I want a ram to use for breeding for the girls and I was planning on cycling him out after a few seasons. Will all rams act this way?

Ah. Sorry. Right. Her ears are my favorite thing about her! She's a funny girl. I am IN LOVE with fluffy cows. I imagine they don't do too well here in Florida...

    New To Cows - QUESTIONS!!

The red one is the baby, the black one is the older... kickier... girl. The red one is a doll baby and just a beautiful girl. I've tried giving the big girl food but and cubes but she doesn't seem to want it. She doesn't even really go for the grain when I feed her. What does it mean a...

    New To Cows - QUESTIONS!!

Well I did it. Last Wednesday I got cows. Not the cows I was going to get, either. I had the vet come out and he gave them a clean bill of health. The baby is still on a bottle and is super friendly when she's hungry. The big girl wants nothing to do with me and isn't really interested in...

    Headbutting

I've had sheep now since December. I've got five katahdin/dorper ewes and a blackbelly ram. He was born in September and I got him from a petting zoo that were overrun with lambs. He's always been a nice guy. I haven't been overly friendly with him because I didn't want to encourage any bad...

Can I put cows on freshcut pasture?

Well my husband broke the mower. I'm assuming putting calves in waist to shoulder high grasses is a bad idea?

Can I put cows on freshcut pasture?

My husband is out right now bushhogging down some fields. They were cleared out a year ago but nothing's been on them and have gotten a bit out of hand. Can I put cows on fresh cut fields right away?

    New To Cows - QUESTIONS!!

Thank you for your replies, they are very informative! My husband and I were originally talking about getting a few steers. I had settled on one steer and two heifers (so that we could raise them together and eat the one when it was about time to breed the others). We do have a cattle chute...

    New To Cows - QUESTIONS!!

They are claiming they have several different breeds of calves available from between $350 to $450. It's a several hour drive and I'm not able to do go there, but they do have photos! I was thinking of getting a few heifers and a steer.

    New To Cows - QUESTIONS!!

This past year my husband and I bought ten-ish acres and a really old farmhouse and we have slowly been settling in. Now that the land is fenced in properly and we've got working gates (!!!!) I'm ready to take the dive into the wonderful world of cattle. We want cows for meat. I'd like to breed...

    Feeding Lambs

I am completely new to sheep. I've recently acquired three lambs (a 5month ewe, a 4month ramb, and a 2week ewe). The two older ones have full access to hay and a pasture for grazing. They LOVE the TSC sheep feed and come running for it, but I'm afraid of over feeding them. How often should I...

    Bottle Baby

@Latestarter How much do you imagine a bit would be? A cup per lamb? Less/more? They look full but I do not want to make them fat.

    Bottle Baby

@Latestarter @Sheepshape @The Old Ram-Australia Thank you!! She does have a name. She's my little Rosemary (Rosie for short). About a week into having her I realized she needed a friend so I found a five month old white wooly sheep for her. Rosie had no interest in Juniper and Juniper had no...
