    More Hay Questions!

Florida here too. Girls didn't care for coastal but they love Brome. I do feed a small amount of alphalfa pellets in the winter when pasture is not so green.

    Roosters

The more I hear about the legbars the more I like them. I'm looking forward to eventual cross breds with my americanas. I will have to wait till spring to get hatching eggs. I do not have an incubator, just heat lamp for chick's. Sounds like a rooster teenager.

    Riding Cows

So, when I was much much younger. My friend and I used to ride her Hereford. We even set up low jumps. We were in-between horses and well, you know...

    Austrolorp, one of each?

It seems that when you buy pullets, there always seems to be a Cockrell amongst them. Boy or Girl? pic# 1 is my favorite, her name is Bossy. Can you guess why 😉 Pic# 2 pullet? Pic# 3 Cockrell? The girls pick on him, he is the smaller of the two. Will he eventually get bigger than her...

    Roosters

I have an americana hen who is in charge. I'm sure she would put a young rooster in his place. But I think I do like the idea of putting eggs under a broody hen, thank you

    Roosters

I have a friend who raises a few breeds. She will give me fertilized eggs. I'm looking at the leggbar or a Maran. Can't decide. Which breed is friendlier? And are the hens gentle. I've never owned these breeds before. I like the idea of getting a young rooster. I'll see if she had any with a...

    Roosters

Thank you for the info. I have a medium size dog crate that will work just fine. Works it be better to get him while they are this age or a little older?

    Roosters

I recently finished my chicken coop. The pen will be fine soon. I used to raise chickens 15 years ago. I'm excited to have my chickens back. They are more than just barn animals, they are spoiled pets. They will be Free Range also. I do have to lock them up when I'm not home as I have a...

    Milking goats

My first experience with goats was a herd of ND. I learned the hard way of breeding too many does at once. I was overwhelmed with so much milk, 🙄 Many years later I now have 2, 10 month olds. One is a Nubian and the other a Kinder. I'm looking forward to kids in 1.5 years from now. I am...

    Goat soap

I read somewhere on here about ways to deter goats from chewing on fence posts and trees using Irish Spring soap. I took a bar out to the field to run on the posts. It did not work with my goat Mazy. She tried to eat the bar and kept licking it as I'm trying to use it. Then for 20 minutes...

I found the block at the feed store labeled for goats. It does have about the same as the loose minerals. They really don't like to stand and lock the block. But because it's so humid right now the block gets damp every night and the girls take advantage of the minerals crumbling from the...

They have a mineral block for goats that they lick on all the time. Very happy girls. They only get 1/4 flake of peanut hay a day which they devour. It helps put weight on my skinny girl. They nibble the coastal but a flake will last a week. I think they find coastal boring. The lot next...

Mazy loves lettuce and pumpkin seeds. BoPeep stuck her nose up. I'll try bread, thanks. And a chair. 😊 I'll have to get tree branches from mom's. I'm thrift store shopping for toys for my girls. Plus I'm getting cable spools from down the road. With I'm done, they will have a gym. What...

Help me find the LGD breed/mix for me!

I agree, it's hard to find a responsible breeder. One of my friends did get a puppy from health tested parents and field raised. Great dog. I'm not sure about conformation titles. It would be hard to show a herd dog that is working. I would think it would be anxious to get back to...

Help me find the LGD breed/mix for me!

I I have two friends that have Maremmas with their herd. The dog love their family. Very devoted to both the herd and them. They do have a thick undercoat which actually protects them from our heat as well as your child weather. It's just not as long. They stay with their goats and...

Help me find the LGD breed/mix for me!

Maremma are popular here in Florida. Their coat is not as long or thick. They are similar to Anatolians in temperament. Not friendly to strangers at all and great guardians. Even to chickens. And we have a coyote problem.

    Margali's Griffin Wood Ranch

How exciting and congrats on getting a new home. I just bought a new MH and put it on 1.25 acres. It took months to have it delivered and then a month of set up. I too did not understand purchase vs value and insurance. But it was explained to me this way. Assess value is different...

Thank you. Yes, their field is grass with little weeds. They have coastal hay at all times. But they don't seem to eat much. I think they are waiting for their lunch of peanut hay. I give them peanut hay because there are no trees or leaves to forage on. Are they being spoiled with the...
